The Mandalorian

I thought the second episode was meh. Baby Yoda is a force boss. Check. Other than that, it made the Mandalorian out to be kind of a bitch. Got whooped the whole episode and then caves and trades for his stolen parts back with no repercussions to the Jawas, does the work montage to rebuild it, and flys away. The whole episode is him getting robbed and being punked...

I guess it’s a matter of perspective. I saw it more as him disintegrating a bunch of Jawas, unable to penetrate its defenses alone, and then fighting a beast basically hand to hand.

I get the impression this mandalorian is a bit younger/green than say a Boba Fet and more “Malcom Reynolds with armor and an attitude” than “the terminator”

I kinda like the more physically vulnerable act over the invincible thing. His armor gets banged up and he is constantly having to fix it. His ship is a shade shy better put together than the Falcon, and it does come across more as him living in the “Wild West” of the galaxy.

The “physically vulnerable” bit is wha made Justified (Raylan Givens, specifically) good.

To me he was very reminiscent of Indiana Jones in Raiders. He is taken as much as he is giving. The scraping him against the rock was so Indiana Jones.

It was the first thing that popped into my mind as well, but it realistically is a very good way to get someone off ones vehicle, so I let it pass.

I guess. For a badass cold blooded calculated killer with an impeccable skillset and tactical knowledge that Mandalorians are supposed to possess, it just struck me wrong. I want to see creative perseverance, not dumb luck and cowtowing...

becoming a Legend is a journey... we could be viewing the Mado’s story early in his career. Obviously he is not a FNG but as he said he once was a foundling.

I’ll settle for lil’Yoda and Bubba Fett. It’s fun to watch.

You have to also consider he is young. His Signet has not been revealed yet.

When he presents the Beskar to the women in the small Mandalorian village in the first episode she asks him.

Has your signet been revealed?” she asks.

“Not yet,” the Mandalorian says.

“Soon.”

I am willing to bet this will be a major plot arch in the first season and will set the tone for those to come. Not all Madalorians are warriors. even thought they are a warrior race/culture. Prior to being given the shoulder piece which she forges from the Beskar the Mando only has one piece of Beskar, his helmet. The guy in the bar tested the breast plate in episode 1 and the beating it took in episode 2 it is clearly not Beskar. This leads one to believe he is not accomplished enough to have a Signet or a set of Beskar. All of this points to him being raw and unproven. I hope they tie in Mandalorian Tarre Vizsla who was a Jedi and wheeled a "Darksaber".

Most of what we know about the Mandalorians comes from the animated series The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. A small amount comes from the Attack of the Clones from the prequels but much of that seems to be rewritten in the animated series.

Isn't he being played by Pena (he will always be Javier Pena to me), who is mid-40s? Perhaps that's young for a Mandalorian?

Appreciate the color on the Mandalorians; as you note, we don't know much about them from the movies.

Yup Pedro "Peña" Pascal, he's 44. Of course it's just a voice if he never removes his helmet.

What app did you use? What I said was Leonflix is not available for the Firestik so you can't use it on the big screen. But I'm interested in what apps you use on the Firestik.
I tried Terrarium, Mobdro and a couple other ones but nothing was working for me.
For some reason my Firestik is painfully slow. I've cleaned up a bunch of stuff but it still hangs or resets itself. It's gotten really frustrating. Sometimes it locks up and I have to unplug the power to get it to reset.
I was on terrarium. I have also had issues with mine but I am cheap and we have gotten by without it. 50 bucks a month for WiFi is a heck of a lot better then 160 a month for WiFi/cable.

Terrarium was shut down by ace( alliance of creative entertainment) the lawyers for dish and the movie studios. Think of them as modern day Pinkertons tracking down third party app operators. Some of the apps are still scrapping but will degrade and stop working with out updates, which aren't coming. The original mobdro was also shut down but several pretenders have popped up at different urls, but they come and go
Also the tvdb did an upgrade Friday that went haywire. Tv show are only scrapping correctly on sites who's developers have installed a code update,
As of now there are three on my system that are scrapping correctly.
Sorry for the the thread hijack.

This is true to a degree. I had to find and install a new terrarium once the old one was cut off. I went onto YouTube and was able to find an updated one that I then installed on my firestik once I removed the old. This will be a game that will be played I am sure. But the pain of trying to find and install an updated version is worth it to me to save 120 per month. Other options are available though and you gotta live with your choices.

After having succumbed to the wife's will on this matter, I STILL haven't watched anything on Disney+.

So far, all I've done is log onto the site the next day and discover that everybody in the family has already set up their own profile and picked a character so show for each. So I did the same.

My favorite character, since childhood, has always been Jiminy Cricket. I can remember the safety films we watched in grade school with him singing "I'm no fool, no sirree, I'm gonna live to be ninty-three, I play safe for you and me, because I'm no fool!"

But on the other hand, Grumpy is my character according to my wife.

So, in a typical manly act of defiance I rejected the option of Grumpy as my avatar and went with Jiminy.

I've got my pride, d*mmit!

Still haven't watched The Mandalorian. Not out of spite, just because I have a ton of other things lined up on Netflix I'm working my way through during my limited off time. I figure by the time I'm done with all that, there will be enough episodes of The Mandalorian to make it worth binge watching.

Just got done watching the third episode since my wife signed up for the Disney + bundle. The series is predictable so far. I think it is the most I've enjoyed Star Wars in a long time. Anyone else predicting that they took midichlorians from the kid and they will somehow get put into Rey or some crap?

I’m enjoying it. They did a good job on the yodaling. Cute little puppet.

A bit confusing how madgos get mad, but then they back up main mando. At any rate, makes for good laser death scenes.
I assume it's like family. I can trash my siblings all I want. If you try to do the same though we will circle the wagons no matter how pissed at each other we are.

Damn that brings back some good (and old) memories!

I fell asleep halfway through episode 2. Going to try again, but so far the plot is predictable and the acting very stiff.

If you go back to the time after the Return of the Jedi many of the surviving Mandalorians were members of The Tribe. This is what is being shown in the Madalorian.

Slow paced? He’s gotten two armor upgrades, fought a rhino on crack, disintegrated a bunch of people, raided an empire bunker, saved a yoda baby, explained Mandalorian armor, fought along side an assassin droid, took part in an old west style gun fight with a horde of bounty hunters, and showed more emotion looking at a knob on his ship than packed into any of the sequel movies combined...while his helmet was on. And that’s all in about an hour of run time...

Hell, we're even seeing that tribalism, not globalism, is the natural order. And note the strong sense of identity the Mandalorians have.
So, he's a deplorable villain?

Sounds a bit like the Karl Urban remake of Judge Dredd
My cousin just added me to his plus account, so i'll check it out soon.
Of course, he also set his profile icon up as spiderman and mine as miguelito from Coco... hijo de puta
