The Mandalorian

Fun fact. The droid is voiced by the guy that does Korg in the Marvel movies.

Yes it is Taika Waititi. He also directed the last episode as @J R Green mentioned. He is also the Writer & Director of JoJo Rabbit. Most people know him from What We Do in The Shadows.

It was the darksaber from Clone Wars and Rebels.

Yes!!!! As others have stated the it is the Dark Saber which was wielded by the only Mandalorian Jedi Tarre Vzsla. It reappears in the Clone Wars cartoons on Mandalore in the hands of Pre Vzsla who is the leader of the Death Watch. It eventually ends up in the hands of Darth Maul. From there it has a long journey into the hands of Moff Gideon. Here is another good read on the history of the Dark Saber.

Rebels takes place after clone wars

I can't wait to see the new season of the Clone Wars. I am interested to see how that depict The Siege of Mandalore and how is dovetails into the Mandalorian. I was a bit disappointed that we did not learn the "The Childs" name. We did however learn Mando's name.

All in all a great start and a great season. For me the only weak episode #4 the village one which was good just not great.

Awesome episode in my opinion. The two storm troopers goofing off was hilarious. Action pretty much non stop. Ended the season with a cleanish slate and ready for it to be Mando searching for the baby’s people and running from Mof DarkSaber McStabbyPants

My wife is one of those that talks to the TV. The only thing louder than me chuckling during the target practice, was her shriek every time (especially the first) the trooper punched the bag.

And then the “that’s right, that’s what you get for punching baby yoda” she yelled when the droid took care of both of them. :D

The two Stormtroopers were Adam Pally and Jason Sudeikis.

We had a few people over and had a binge party today, watched the entire season. Holy guacamole I love the show! I really feel like this show breathes new life into the Star Wars franchise. I’m pretty excited for season two, Disney needs to get to get’en and get it out. I’d also like to see a longer season.

Pretty good character build up over the eight episode. And great special effects. Only episode I didn’t like was the second one. I don’t know why him having to do a favor for the Jawa’s was to get his spare parts back just Didn’t sit well. I feel like he had the skills to just kick their butts and taken his stuff back..

definitely one I’m going to buy when it comes out on disk.

I love this show and I wish they had canned JJ Abrams for the last movie and put this guy in charge.

My only real gripe with it is this: On camera every Mandalorian you see kicks serious ass, especially vs empire troops. Off camera the mandalorians get massacred by the empire at every turn. WTH is up with that?

If you are referring to the pile of armor during the last episode I really have only two observations:

1. We didn’t see the pile of storm trooper armor.
2. When the last platoon is blown up they are the last ones left on the planet...so it’s safe to say they may have been massacred, but they took a few with them.

Also they were trapped in a sewer. Just keep tossing gas and thermal detonator down there until you break their defenses then send in the black armour guys.

Droids are not good or bad. They are neutral reflections of those who imprint them.”

Reminds me of something...
ahah yeah. when I saw that I sent a message to my cousin who was letting me borrow his d+ account and said...
" 'droids are not good or bad, they are neutral reflections of those who imprint them' - is that a pro-gun message from disney?"

I think we’re going to do this to rewatch Season 1 right before Season 2 starts.

Heck, if I survived doing it with the three Lord of the Rings movies one time (Director’s cuts, 12 hours total), I can handle this.

Did it seem close enough to one continuous movie if you’re skipping the intros and immediately starting the next episode each time?

The Mandalorians who saved Din Djarin wore the sigil of the Secret Mandalorians. It is a symbol of House Vizsla and the Deathwatch from the Clone Wars. They were the ones who had the Dark Saber. Many people are predicting that the Mandalorian might be "saved"/"raised" by Bo-Katan Kryze of the Death Watch who was IIRC the last known bearer of the Dark Saber. If this happens that would lead us to see to possibly see flash backs to the Siege of Mandalore and even a cameo appearance from Obi Wan Kenobi.

Yes it did, it was like a long movie that wasn’t long.

We did the same thing also with the extended edition lord of the rings and hobbit movies. :D

There are a few cases of Mando getting dinged in places not covered by armor, and heck even a blast defeats his helmet and nearly kills him in the last episode. Not only does he have a very nice set of Plot-Armor, one could argue that he is trained in such a way to keep the armor positioned for maximum protection and most people are trained to go for center mass shots and to a lesser extent headshots. But in the end, its because it would be a very short series if he was unlucky and took a blaster bolt under the chin.

I am excited for the season 7 of the Clone Wars. It is all about the The Siege of Mandalore. Principles from The Mandalorian are also working on that project so I am pretty sure its going to dovetail into right into the some of what we are seeing in the Mandalorian. According to Taika Waititi the Yoda Baby has a name and he knows it but they are not releasing it. This confirms what Bob Iger already stated. The video above is pretty good at laying out some interesting possibilities for season 2.

Some behind the scenes making-of. Way more CGI than I thought, but they used real-time game engine rendering on a 360-degree screen. Pretty cool:

That was really cool!

Finally watched the series with my wife last weekend.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and more than once I could hear Ennio Morricone's music playing in the background.

So far the only bit of criticism I have is in the season's final episode where Din Djarin's face was revealed. In my opinion, it would have been better served if the scene had shifted during his helmet removal to obscure his face. It would have kept up the mystique behind his appearances a bit longer.
