S&W 329PD

My nephew has one of these, and he likes the wood grips because they look cool.
I love me some magnum, always have. You really gotta try to turn me away from one, but S&W did so with this thing.

My lil' Sis has a 327 Federal Magnum LCR. Shooting it with full house 327's in it was aggrivating, but a set of Pachmayr Diamond Pro grips cured that. The stock 2-finger grips were a joke.

But I don't think there's a grip made that can make that 329pd handle with any sense of civility. The gun is only good for one thing. Shoot a bear and run away. Which granted, is what it is made for.
Still...if you wanted to turn off a newbie to shooting this would be a perfect choice.

35 remington pump action rifle was my intro to center fire rifles. Scope cut my eyebrow. 3030 with curved metal butt plate pretty unpleasant as well. Browning 1885 in 3855 same but damn that gun was accurate. 300yd gong with irons. Shot a 45mag Grizzly one time. No thanks. Guy brought every big bore production wheel gun known to man to the range and asked me if i wanted to shoot them. Not no, but HELL NO. Pain is not my idea of fun.

I dont know what shotgun it was, but shot a friend's with a slug in it...hurt like hell

2” 500sw.

Shot a couple unpleasant bigbore rifles. One that comes to mind was a .416 rigby I think. Short liggtweight brush gun of some sort. One shot lasted me about a week!

My dad gave me a NEF break action 20ga for Christmas when I was 11. Full choked 28" smooth top barrel light weight. He also gave me a box of high brass Remington #5 shells with it. We walked down to behind the old hog shed and he sat a drink can on the slab pile. He said well give her hell!! Now keep in mind, up until this point his little 514 Remington was the only gun I had ever shot (i had shot it sever hundred times and was in my mind fairly proficient). I raised that little shotty up, looked down that gorgeous blued barrel, placed that shiney brass bead on that bright green and white colored Mt Dew can thumbed the hammer back and pulled the very stiff trigger. Two things simultaneously happened; the can vaporized and the shot gun smacked my cheek and violently kicked down my bicep stopping in the bend of my arm. Pops laughed, said boy ya gotta hold on to that thang and handed me another shell which politely declined and said we better get back up to the house and get ready for lunch ( it was like 8:30 lol). I carried it the rest of squirrel season claiming I didn't see anything to shoot. I tried once to place it on a tree and reach around the tree to shoot it, that absorbed the recoil but that made it fairly difficult to aim. That was the kickingest gun I had ever seen! Never did get to where I could shoot it. I still have it to this day and it kicks worse than any shotgun I have ever messed with and I have several 10ga and 3.5" magnums.

I was dumb enough to bench an older No 1 in .458Lott to verify it was sighted in correctly... it’s not to bad off hand but when benched it is a bitch.

As for a handgun the worst I think was a single angle BFR revolver in .45-70. It was rough because of the grip jamming the hell out of my hand between my thumb and index finger ... cut and bruised for over a week.

Ouch! And I can handle a 454 Casull Snubby
But the Sig P238 is awesome.

Ruger LCR 38
Again, 38+P hurts. The shape of it doesn’t suit my hands. I prefer The S&W 442.

Mossberg 500 shotgun. Mosin Nagant.
Painful.

I prefer having Rubber grips on most revolvers.

First thing that comes to mind is the XDS 45.

I was going to post this. I had one when they first came out.

It's like an M80 going off in your hand, without all the blood splatter. And trigger slap was equally unpleasant

Never really shot an unpleasant gun but if I had to choose one it would be a 3.5” 12 gauge with heavy turkey loads.

Biggest hand gun was a .454 casull, very manageable.

Rifle would be an .06 or .45/70

I just don’t own any real thumpers.

Ruger LCR with laser grips shooting .357 mag.

20 gauge Eastern Arms shotgun of my grandsdads would thump the crap out of you, stock shape sucked.
I still have it and never shoot it.
Handguns, I only shot up to a 44 Mag, so not much experience there.

Yes. A 3.5” turkey load. WTH... out of a Remington pump. First shot was dead on,the next couple I was flinching, badly... Instead of vaporizing the can of corn. It was only getting murdered at 50yds.

Suppose I’m weird about recoil though. Everyone claims my stock,Mossy 500 is brutal. Doesn’t bother me. None of my buddies care to shoot my T53. Doesn’t bother me. The 7mm mag Ruger I just sold was just enough to make me realize I didn’t want to run more than a box in a trip.. The only M1 garand I’ve ever gotten to shoot? Wow the recoil was surprising! Kinda worried to invest in one. Had a NEF 20g single shot. I gave up and sold it cause the recoil was so painful even with low brass I never took it out...

Handguns, it was a buddies Taurus titanium 357 snubbie. 38s in it were ok, full tilt 357 was in pleasant to say the least.

Rifle, it was a buddies weatherby light weight with synthetic stock in 300 win mag. 5 shots from the bench and no more for me.

I put a pistol grip collapsible stock on a mossberg 500 once. Was a cool ass gun. Side saddle, 8 shot tube, you know, cool. Lol

I carried it on several coyote hunts . When I’d get down on it to “aim” at the coyote and pull the trigger it felt like someone was punching me in the face. Didn’t take me long to sell it

Ahh, I forgot about the lightweight Mossberg 535 Shotgun I sighted/patterned for a friend with 3.5"Turkey loads. First shot I thought it knocked my tooth out.

Without a doubt the most unpleasant gun I have ever owned, the Doubletap in .45 ACP.

dt45.jpg

I didn't own it but a Harrington & Richardson Handi Rifle in 45-70 would get your attention, too.

Had a neighbor come over once, said “I gotta gun you need to shoot”

Ok what is it?
“Double barrel 3.5” 10ga”

PASS

I think it was a .444 Marlin lever gun my buddy had. It was pretty miserable to sight in. The .454 Casull in the Alaskan was BIG, but manageable in that platform and the nice rubber grips.

Guess being a bigger fella comes in handy for something. Never had a problem with recoil regardless of caliber. So my version of “unpleasant” would be anything inaccurate. And the worst of the worst when it comes to that is Ruger’s “American” series rifles. Every one I’ve owned or touched has been a waste of $$.

Bowen built Bisley in 475 Linebaugh.
I have to change this somewhat..during our Meet and Greet, a member from Charleston had a 475 here and offered it to me to shoot. I took it and shot it at some hanging discs at about 25 yards and went 5 for 5 in a fairly rapid manner. I fully intended to shoot once and hand back. His rounds felt like a warm 44 in a RBH. These must have been some loaded down stuff he brought.
A REAL 475 in full song is NOT recreational.

Safety Harbor Firearms 50 BMG with suppressor.

They make a great 50BMG AR platform.
Their muzzle brake is a 12 port shark gill style, and very effective. Produces a “slow push” instead of a sharp punch...

Then I had AWC build me a custom suppressor.

It was basically shooting a lightweight 50 BMG with no muzzle brake.
It knocked me out of the chair the first time...
Not fun...

Beretta 1201FP 12g, that thing was just horrid. It felt twice as bad as my NEF 12g.

That 329PD from @Friday OP isn't terrible with the Hogue X-Frame grip. That said, I think I ran 2 cylinders through mine before I sold it.

Walther pps in 40, I've also had a S&W PD in 45 that wasn't pleasant to shoot.

Back in the mid 1970's I bought a Remington 700 BDL in .243 Win from a guy that bought it new at the local hardware store for the deer season. After deer season he wanted to sell it, complete with scope, ammo, sling, and case. He was selling it for a ridiculous amount of money, $150 for all of it. Still a very good deal at 1970's prices.

That .243 recoiled like a 30-06. I don't know what it was about that rifle but everyone that shot it couldn't believe the recoil from a .243. My ex-father-in-law always liked that rifle so I gave it to him. He kept it and hunted with it for several years. Before he died, he gave it back to me. I kept it for several more years and I finally sold it. I always wondered why that rifle kicked like it did.

Keltec PF9 w 124gr +P.

Couldn’t hit a damn pickup truck from 15yd and it felt like getting smacked with a broom stick every time I pulled the trigger. Plus my finger would get pinched between the trigger and guard.

That thing broke after 120rd, only like 10 +P.

Only said no thanks one time, and that was after a couple of rounds though a contender chambered in .375 jdj. It wasn't ported yet, and that sob kicked like a mule, even blew the paint off the end of the shooting bench. Porting tamed it pretty good, and I didn't mind it after that.

Little ol' Beretta Tomcat in .32ACP. Nastiest little gun & sharp, stinging recoil. My .45-70 Guide Gun will knock the snot out of you with 300gr Federal Fusions. My 590A1 beat me up till I put wood furniture on it, cut the stock down 1.75" & put a Limbsaver pad on it.

I don't get the Mosin thing. Shot a buddy's 91 with some stripe of Wolf ammo & actually liked it. Didn't feel like it kicked much more, if any, than my Marlin .30-30 & I can (& have several times) shoot that thing all day long.

Shot a bud's 340PD a few years ago & put a cylinder's worth of full house 158gr .357 through it. Felt like catching a MLB fastball with no mitt.

Back in college, I shot a Mosin M38 indoors without earpro on a dare. That was unpleasant.

Handgun was a BFR .454 Casull. It literally unbuckled my watch. Nothing at all like the Raging Bull we shot the same day.

Long gun was a T/C Encore I had with the 12 ga rifled slug barrel. With 3" sabot slugs you'd think you'd dropped a stick of dynamite down a piece of pump pipe and stuck it to your shoulder.
