The most unpleasant gun you've ever shot

700 Big Game Synthetic in .416 Rem Mag. 22" barrel. Impulse buy.

Most I ever shot through it in one sitting was 5 - 5 shot groups...25 rounds of Barnes 400gr solids I had loaded for it. I'm not recoil sensitive, but I did hurt for a couple days after that. Good rifle, but eventually sold it.

A mosin the day before my first shoulder surgery. I was already hurting like mad but I figured if I tore it up more they would already be in there and could fix that too.

I had an Ithca 37 Featherlight that would loosen teeth. I was not sad to see that one go.

I still have a home made BP gun of about 7ga. I have not fired it in years, but it will thump
if you put too much powder, and 8 .45 round balls on top of it.;)

Probably that little 20 gauge the cost me 13 stitches under my right eye. I was young and stupid, and didn't have the butt against my shoulder, and that hammer ripped my cheek wide open.

Most unpleasant since I've grown up is a 378 Weatherby Mag. Never, ever, ever, again. I should have known when they guy said he had it for 30 years and had only ever shot it once.

I guess the PMR-30 that slam fired in the house and later exploded would rank up there as well.

I was about 9 or so amd my dad, uncle and grandpa thought it was time for me to shoot Pa's old 12ga "goose gun"! Not fun for me. I remember that thing kicked like a mule. They all got a chuckle out of it. I'm pretty sure there was beer involved on their part.

Also, the Keltec P3AT I used to have. Easily slipped into a pocket, but no fun at all to shoot.

That sounds like a story I'd like to hear.

It was one of the earlier iterations. I was racking it to try carrying it one day and it sent a round into the baseboard; fortunately, I was following the rules. I can say that touching off a 22 Mag out of 4.5" barrel inside a small room is a memorable noise, mostly because the ringing in your ears stays there for a week or so.

Not long afterwards, some friends and I were shooting it on the range at my house, heard an odd bang and suddenly the rear sight was gone. The entire plastic portion of the slide behind the chamber had blown to pieces. Kel Tec made it right, but I passed the new one on, not wanting to be snake bit a third time.

Most unpleasant handgun for me is a tie between A springfield poly 45 (horrible ergonomics, felt like trying to shoot a bent cheese grater) and one of those alloy framed 44's in the first post.

With long guns, the hardest recoiling to me was a Ithaca M37 featherweight deerslayer. I tried shooting 1oz slugs through it. It shot them well, but beat the snot out of me. It was also quite unpleasant with buckshot.

Also, I generally find most blowback action centerfire firearms to be very unpleasant. Something about the recoil impulse feels 'wrong' to me and I never have got used to it.

How long did it take the fire department to get there and put out the fire?

I hit the target. My hand hurt for two days. As a matter of fact, it hurts now as I remember it. The entire one round shot took a whopping 15 seconds.

I thanked the owner and vowed to myself that this is a gun I would never own.

That's why I'm not .44Mag fan. Just too damned much drama for my tastes. I can shoot my hot rodded .41Mags all day long & loved shootin' Ruger-only .45LC through a friend's 5.5" Blackhawk, but the .44Mag is just painful.

A 45-70 Marlin guide gun loaded with some buffalo bore 500gr rounds....all 5 rounds went down range but it fawking hurt

Yeah, no thanks. Mine starts wearing me out quickly with Hornady 325gr. I don't even wanna think about shooting those heavy Buffalo Bore loads through it.

Made for a cool pic though. :D
I ran all 6 through my nephew's. Effin' wood grips! I cussed them more than anything else.
I opened it, check for clear, take it back to the bench and with that sarcastic drip in my voice asked my nephew "So just wtf is this thing?"

The .454 Casull in the Alaskan was BIG, but manageable in that platform and the nice rubber grips.
I must be a wimp. A guy let me shoot his at Uwharrie years ago. Damn thing made me say “uncle” every shot!

Another vote for the Keltec P3AT. I wanted to try it out for a carry gun. Cheap, skinny, what’s not to initially like? Stupid thing felt like a wood splitting wedge in my hand after a couple mags. Not cool if you’re gonna put in any range time to get proficient with it.

Maybe the KelTec is a girl gun, because I love mine! It's a bit snappy, but I still like it a lot.

It’s too skinny for my ape hands! It didn’t hurt, but it was not comfortable at all.

Two way tie for me.A Kahr PM40 is pretty snappy and very hard to shoot fast. I used to have a Charter Arms Bulldog in .44 special in the late 70's with the alloy frame. It was brutal with heavy loads. Two cylinders and you had the imprint of the grip medallion on your hand.

Howa 1500 in 7mag is the worst centerfire rifle, shot it once and that was enough. After my dad gave it to me I sold it to a buddy and he loves it. I saw it give three different people scope eye. Worst handgun was a snub nose Taurus 357.

I have shot big bore all my life, but the most uncomfortable hurt my damn hands and made a blister from the grip handgun was a stinking German made RG revolver in 44mag. I had rather be shot by one of these than to shoot another one.

Marlin 45/70 GG with 325 Grain Hornady® LEVERevolution® Rifle Ammunition. I ran two down the tube, that was enough. Those almost knocked my glasses off.

I'm sure there's other more punishing stuff that I've not shot. Don't really want to go searching for them either...

Had to be a Marlin 55 Goose gun in 12ga. Guy wanted it cut down to 22" barrel and sights installed for deer gun. With buck or slug it made me put my hat on my shoulder and wince a little every time I shot it. Got it sighted in and still had bruise on shoulder 2wks later. Handgun was .357 derringer, that thing was just wicked!

Lorcin. I let a guy fire my Springfield P9, felt obligated when he offered his Lorcin. Felt dirty afterwards.
:p

Ruger LCR in 357.......Dad's carry gun. Wrist killer. Downright painful after a couple rounds. He carries it w/ .38 special alternating w/ rat shot....he runs into snakes quite a bit on the farm.

I’m am not scared of recoil. I enjoy shooting big bore lever actions, but I hated shooting the Beretta 1201FP. You’d think a semi-auto shotgun would have less recoil than a pump action but not this one. And the controls are dumb. No fun at all. Do not want to shoot another.

I have a friend that told me once that I was the only person he knew that loved recoil. I shot his 500 S&W magnum 5 rounds and asked if I could shoot some more . He said yes for $1.00 per round. Absolutely loved it. On the other hand I bought a Ruger super Redhawk in 454 Casull that felt like a stick of dynamite went of in my hand, Palm of my hand was numb for a week. I actually had some of Dick Casull's original loads from Freedom Arms that were hotter than HELL. Never fired it again. Sold it to ex wife's husband and he shot only 45 colt ammo through it. I also have a S&W 340 PD that I like to shoot 125 gr JHP 357 magnums out of.

I've owned a 2" barrelled Taurus Titanium in 357. Only four of us fired .357 through it and it drew blood on 3 out of the 4 because we weren't holding on tight enough. I've fired the S&W 340 PD as well. I didn't enjoy my Ruger GP100 Match Champion with .357 and the wood grips either. That surprised me. However, the most painful was the 625-10. It' a 2" S&W 6 shot scandium framed 45ACP. I figured 45acp would be a push, so not to0 bad. I was wrong. Myself and the guy who shot the Taurus without bleeding tried and tried to get used to it, but all I did was start to develop a flinch. And the recoil was starting to pull bullets. I miss it in theory, but that's all...

Funny story. I had a guy once try to sell me a NEF single shot 3" chambered 10 gauge. I said "no thanks". LOL. When I was @15 my Dad had bought me a single shot NEF 12 gauge, when I was young enough not to care.

Deagle in .50AE

just makes zero sense. 6lbs is required weight to mitigate recoil, grip feels like an oversize Glock block grip, fireball from the .50 ammo is tremendous and muzzle rise is prodigious.

no thanks. BTW my 13 year old son shot it like a champ and never complained.

My dad gave me a NEF break action 20ga for Christmas when I was 11. Full choked 28" smooth top barrel light weight. He also gave me a box of high brass Remington #5 shells with it. We walked down to behind the old hog shed and he sat a drink can on the slab pile. He said well give her hell!! Now keep in mind, up until this point his little 514 Remington was the only gun I had ever shot (i had shot it sever hundred times and was in my mind fairly proficient). I raised that little shotty up, looked down that gorgeous blued barrel, placed that shiney brass bead on that bright green and white colored Mt Dew can thumbed the hammer back and pulled the very stiff trigger. Two things simultaneously happened; the can vaporized and the shot gun smacked my cheek and violently kicked down my bicep stopping in the bend of my arm. Pops laughed, said boy ya gotta hold on to that thang and handed me another shell which politely declined and said we better get back up to the house and get ready for lunch ( it was like 8:30 lol). I carried it the rest of squirrel season claiming I didn't see anything to shoot. I tried once to place it on a tree and reach around the tree to shoot it, that absorbed the recoil but that made it fairly difficult to aim. That was the kickingest gun I had ever seen! Never did get to where I could shoot it. I still have it to this day and it kicks worse than any shotgun I have ever messed with and I have several 10ga and 3.5" magnums.
I had a Rossi 20ga, same thing but polymer stock, may have helped. I was surprised how much that thing kicked, course it was very light.

First thing that comes to mind is the XDS 45. I also hate any tiny pistol in .40.
Strangely enough I had a Taurus Millennium Pro in 45ACP which is a similar size (but double stack) and it was less recoil than a 1911 in my hands. Don't know why or how but they really had good ergos on that thing.

My worst experience was with a Thompson Center Contender ( Single shot pistol) chambered in 45/70 Govt.. This was just stupid.. I watched a friend of mine try it first, he split his forehead open when the barrel wacked his head. I shot it sort of sideways, the recoil ended just past my right ear. Took me a while to get of the flinch that thing created.. yeah, alcohol was involved.

Whatever that little cannon was we were shooting @BatteryOaksBilly 's place a few weeks ago at the meet up. .375 h&h maybe?

One of the most beautiful bluing jobs I've ever seen too.

The first Mosin I shot was a carbine, while I had a frozen shoulder. I hurt for three days.

I shot a cheap .22 revolver once that sent a piece of metal into my cheek. It didn't initially hurt too bad, but the next couple weeks sucked until that piece of metal came to the surface so I could pull it out.
