Let's get a few things out of the way right now:
-yes, it's a 25 year old movie
-I like Kevin Costner

Fiance recorded this on the dvr, said it looked good (from the first half hour or so), and so we watched tonight.
I'll give it a B. I like KC, he's funny to me, plays parts well/does his job well, and the antagonist, Will Patton, reminded me a lot of W.T. Sherman.
It's long, almost 3 hours with credits...WOW. I think they couldve chopped, easily 15/20 minutes out of it and wouldnt miss a thing.
Funny/campy at times, but still a bit rough at others, not a kids movie
But, yeah, I liked it and you should check it out

I enjoyed it back in the day. Pissed about his horse.

Watched it more times than I'd like to admit. Yes I'm a Costner fan. Will Patton is awesome in it. And yeah I'm pissed about his horse too.

Good flick. I saw it in the theatre with wifey. Believe she was pregnant with our first at the time. I got the Sherman vibe, as well.

Ugh. I like Costner. I think I’m the only person on the planet that could suspend disbelief and enjoyed water world.

I thought the postman was the one of the worst movies ever made.

whoa whoa whoa, you LIKE Water World, but not this one? Duder, come on.

I really like them both. Hell I even liked JFK and Dances With Wolves. I guess I'm a sucker for 3+ hour Kevin Costner movies. Open Range is another awesome Costner film but a short story by these standards.

Very true.
You might be the first person Ive ever met that likes WW. Use it at parties, get more poon.

Off topic. My favorite way to get people to open up at a low key gathering is to ask them to name 3 books that changed the way they think.

It’s amazing and really interesting to hear the answers.

Can’t do it at a rave or a raucous party. But I haven’t been to one of those in 20 years lol.

I've read that Water World and The Postman were a couple of the worst movies ever made. I liked them. Big Costner fan, even his country singing (but I'm from the NE, so what do I know about it?).

I really liked Waterworld, and I really loved the postman. I think the fact that most of the people who don’t like those films thought the bodyguard was amazing!🤣

I'll have to see if I can find it on streaming somewhere. I read the book sometime in late '80s but never got around to watching the movie.

I can suspend disbelief long enough to believe Tom Petty becomes a leader after the apocalypse.

Put me down as a fan of The Postman and WW.

The movie was mediocre mindless entertainment. The book series by Brin was decent.

I have a fondness for Waterworld as the Hollywood firm that did the water effects for that movie also designed the water effects for the Belagio in Las Vegas. And guess who sold the Bellagio those cables and banked a heck of a bonus check one year? 😎

I absolutely hate when i'm flipping channels and come across waterworld
i stop there every time
I like the movie. no apologies for that. it's not an action smashtacular, it's not hot and sexy... it's just a good flick.

shoot...
#1 is, of course the hitchhiker's guide series. You can add in the dirk gently series, and last chance to see
I can't think of much else that REALLY changed the way i think about things.
If I HAD to dig through my boxes and shelves of books... i'd find many i didn't read and many more i did but can't remember...
but if you want to cram a few books like The Art of War, Go Rin no Sho, and maybe Funikoshi's Karate-do... I'd say that could make a big smelted up #2.
#3 is either Airframe by crichton, or the more recent American Insurgent by Phil Rabalais (matter of facts podcast). Airframe because it drills home the lesson that people suck and you don't always have to dig deep to find where things go wrong, American Insurgent because it drills home the lesson that people suck and you don't want to make them do what they feel they have to do.

I love both movies, just watched the Postman again also. Are we far from living like that?

I watched Postman 2 nights ago and Tin Cup last night. Had not seen Postman since…probably ‘97! Costner owned the 90’s 3+ hour movie genre!!!

And I never thought Waterworld was that terrible…just coulda used about a 30 minute cut…like Postman.

start a thread lol

Costner is great. Yes, Tin Cup is good, as is Open Range (second favorite western of mine)
He just seems like a good guy, too.

I just read the book. The author talks about the movie at the end. Says he thinks they did it as much justice as you can in Hollywood. Book was pretty good. Got a little sci-fi weird at the end.

C'mon. You guys aren't going to acknowledge his version of Robinhood?? 😂 😂

Seriously tho, he and Woody were pretty awesome in The Highwaymen.
