I am fat and happy loving the mild winter, so I was aghast to see this morning talk of a possible late-week snow event. Some models show eastern NC getting a decent snow, with a bit here in the Triangle.

I thought we couldn't cuss in this area of the forum!

After living in WI for almost 20 years it doesn't really XXXX here anyway.

Yep, up north it doesn't even count as news unless it's deep enough to close the school because the busses can't run. I had a Troy Built two stage snow thrower at my previous house that I left for the new owners. I admit to bringing my snow shovel with, but that because it's 20 years old and you simply can't buy a tool like it anymore. It's still good to use as a mulch scoop.

Unless "up north" is Person County, that's about as "up north" as we talk about in context of snow...

That will shut the state down I bet!

For a day or so, yeah. The main problems aren't the major roads, but the rural roads. The bigger issue is when it mixes with ice.

The biggest snow I recall here was 20 years ago, we had...22" or so, all overnight. THAT shut down the state for a few days.

Where? In NC. Doesn't seem possible?

My mom's birthday is March 14. Around her birthday in the early 90s, we got about 6". When I was a kid in the early 80s, we got about 8" in Hillsborough. We've had "dustings" in April.

When I was in middle school in Havelock, late 80's, we had a snow day in April. It was strange...

A guy I work with follows the weather really close. He showed me a copy of the European model for the weekend and it showed a storm moving up the I-95 corridor, from the south, that would dump 8-10".

I know I will be flamed but, I really don't like winter season without at least a day or two of winter weather. So far we have had lots of grey and wet but nothing resembling winter. And, based on my 40+ years experience here in the Old North State, this type of warm wet winter leads to a late cool Spring immediately followed by un-Godly hot and humid summer. No thank you!

FWIW, that model is dead wrong; or, at least inconsistent with most other models. The energy that might be interesting is coming from the west. This guy is out of Richmond, and is the best (most accurate?) meteorologist I have seen:

But I have seen everything from zero precip of any type to 5"-7" of snow in the Triangle, with a massive dump in the east.

I didn't think it held much weight but it was interesting to see. He was all excited about it so I acted interested. Lol

Whatever it is had better not be going on on Thursday. I have to go to Rocky Mount, a place I've never been. The "S" word would make me stressed.

And ungodly bug invasion.

While I do not particularly want snow, I sure as hell do NOT want a long and hot and humid summer!

When we moved here we brought an old snow thrower with us. The contractor that built our house was there when the moving truck showed up and they unloaded it. He gave it a queer look and asked. "What is that thing?". We told him it was a snow thrower. He responded "No, seriously what is that?" Again we told him it was a snow thrower. He said, "put that back on the truck you won't need it." Well, the next winter we got something like 12-16" in one night. Well, the next morning I fired up on the snow thrower and cleaned my driveway. Neighbors were driving by and laughing at me. However, starting the following day, my driveway was clear while theirs were sheets of ice and I was the one laughing.

And how many times did you need it since?

Note that you didn’t need it that first time either. Nobody expected you to go anywhere until it melted so as long as you bought you milk sandwich ingredients before the storm you can just stay home.

I used it again about 2-3 years later. I used it here a few times until this gear broke to pieces on the powered starter and it wouldn't start by the pull cord. Finally sent it to the curb. It was probably 20 years old when it was given to me. Definitely easier than shoveling. I've actually considered going up north and getting one in the fall, and then when a storm hits offering to clear the neighbor's driveway for $20 and seeing if I can get enough to pay for the machine. Eventually we'll sell that house and if we have snow like that which needs clearing now, I'd just get out the tractor with the loader bucket.

in 1993, the ACC tournament in Charlotte lost power due to a blizzard.

All it takes is a frog to pee on the road and it be 31 * or less and they close or delay school. January 2 1984 we went to bed with it 34* woke up with 54 inches on the ground.

That's the beauty of snow around here. Since it shuts everything down, any snow at all is a reason to stay home and relax.

It happens so rarely that you might as well just call work and tell them you're not coming, stay home and enjoy the scenery. I don't shovel my driveway either. I don't have to go anywhere until the snow melts, so why work myself up when I could just wait it out?

It'll be too warm in my house anyway. I heat with wood, so I usually get the fire going real good then open the windows.

Exactly. Snow here is a surprise vacation, not an emergency. Unless your wife is in labor I guess.

And ungodly skeeters and ticks! Bring on the cold! Need a couple days in the teens, that's all.

My wife and were just saying today how it would be strange to not have at least one snow event this winter. I even bought a new sled 3 or 4 months ago, dang it.

Bring it ON! :D

In in ATL now, driving back Friday. Love me some snow driving time. Not had that since driving to Raleigh the week of February 2015.

Where in Wisconsin? Wife has kin in Janesville

How funny! My wife (current) lived near Janesville (Clinton) with lots of family in Janesville (Shopiere/Beloit).

I lived in the Milwaukee area, where 90% of the humans in Wisconsin do.

God I hate the S word! Tired of it!

PM me the last name and I will check with her.

Snow is bad for business. BUT! Its rare and exciting! Can't wait until all the bread and milk is sold out and everyone finds a ditch to skid off into.... :D

Im in El Paso and it's snowed twice in the last two weeks...for a grand total of one hour lol
Reminiscent of NC, actually...every loaf of bread and gallon of milk died in the first ten minutes. Post was shut down until 1000 the next morning despite the fact nothing laid and the overnight temp was in the 40s. It melted as soon as it touched down.

I remember when I was in high school and we got a foot overnight. That really sucked since I had to wake up early so I could dig my car out so I could get to school on time. A tad different going to school in Buffalo, NY.
I am hoping it doesn’t snow but if it does I will be out early in the AWD Subaru showing off my snow driving skillz and prob pulling my southern friends out of ditches. Stay safe you all!
