Worlds smallest HF transmitter, for $40 it's just neat to have.

How far would that little thing broadcast? I'm assuming a lot of that depends on the antenna, but that's pocket survival kit small.....

All depends on band conditions, like you said, the antenna, and other factors...

I see they also have a no licence version, if it has any carry with the sort of antenna you can tote easily that seems too neat not to get, especially at that sort of price.

Keep in mind this is a transmitter ONLY.

Right. The AM/FM version would just need a regular radio as a receiver, right?

That is correct....

Might be handy for simple outgoing comms to a nearby person with a cheap pocket radio/earbud. Not even morse, just a "beep code" or some simple prearranged signals.

Many possibilities.....

I've worked Japan from Calif with 300mW output to a dipole on 15m. QRP works... not always easily, but with CW you CAN work the world with a watt.

I spent most of the weekend working DX (off the spotting network), using 5 watts PEP or less, from 100% battery power on my FT-897D. Trying to get a feel on how long the battery bank will power the station.
