I was at a 2 gun match this past weekend and saw all sorts of 5.56 multi round rifles being used and the only one that appealed to me was a real A2. It reminded me of a time years ago, back in the early 70's when I used to carry one and I'm thinking about buying/building one. Since I know virtually nothing about building one of these, I been doing some reading. Is it true that I can use any of the lowers and the trigger controls and its only the upper/furniture and all the other bits and pieces that are A2 specific?
Thanks for any advise you can render me..

Here’s a close clone kit all you’d need is a lower ... https://palmettostatearmory.com/20-chf-a2-premium-rifle-kit.html ... with a nice chromed lined FN barrel (rumor has it PSA might stop carrying FN barrels for some reason). It’s a flat top instead of a fixed carry handle ... you need to buy a carry handle ... but to me that’s kinda a plus unless you really are set on a true A2 upper setup.

Find a solid built in handle A2 upper. I have two built ins and I love them...
This.
I have a flat top with a carry handle and I've never even had a reason to take it off.
I'd imagine there's a tiny bit of weight saved as well.

I really would like a 20” classic A1.

I, too, saw one at a 2gun match last weekend!

I have a 20 inch A1 upper on a cheapo lower, need to swap that lower with an A1 or A2

Go for it, they tend to multiply, between carbines and rifles I have five fixed carry handle ARs lol

Thank you for posting this link,,But If I decide to do his? I really want it to look period correct other wise Im always going look at it and wish I bought what I wanted. I can only buy once since Im still raising Grand kids, 16 years now with no support from Mom or Dad with no end in sight.. Thinking about selling my 1911 45 acp comp pistol that I bought back in 82 and swore never to sell to fund this new itch, but that's going to be hard to do.

The A1 is the one I used to carry and that's what I'm really looking for. He is an old guy, like me and was a career military ordinance officer and had his since 1977. The 1 in 12 twist barrel shot like it was a lazer and he won the rifle match part of the 2 gun match. He swears by the 1x12 barrels using 55 grain heads and he proved it.

This is the one our own member Dan used I think. Had black furniture though. Can't remember his screen name, or I'd tag him. Very good shooter.

These brownells rifles are nice. I've have one of the uppers (with forward assist) that I built into a 12.5" SBR iron sights race gun, and I really like it. My buddy @Edg890 just built a 16" midlength using this upper, but with the slick side. I like the slick side better.

5542B1CB-D8F7-4D55-AA6D-9AF653FFE481.jpeg I guess it’s considered “modern”. I love the way it feels and damn she sure is light. Let us know if you need a parts list.

Well, my idea or thought just got shot to heck..I appreciate everyone's responses and links to the Brownells A1 or even the A 2 links..Thats darn pricey and thought I could build one for cheaper, but it looks like I cannot..If I want a period correct AR, its gonna cost me $1000. I was hoping in the $600 range IF I could buy it a bit at a time.. My wife would castrate me if I spent a grand on a rifle when shes been wanting new living room furniture that I keep telling her we cant afford. I might be able to start sneaking in the parts to build one, but Im going to have to give in on the new furniture first. So, that's the plan. Start giving in on the new furniture, then start buying the A1 parts that I'm going to be needing. Might take me a year, but I will get there eventually. Thanks for everyone's advice. Think I going to start with a lower first, this way Ive got the political sway part in my hands.

I bought the 20” psa kit earlier this year and like it. I haven’t bought a carry handle yet but put a red dot on to shoot. It’s a lot heavier than a 16” gun but shoots a lot smoother.
