OMG! An assault rifle!!!
What make, model?
Its cousin says 'hello'...
Wow, looking good!
45-70, I'd like to shoot one of those some day
Make, or at least the importer is Armsport Inc, Miami Florida, barrel is also stamped l.A.B. Gardone V.T.
Man that’s awesome!
IAB, I've handled a couple. Some sharp edges but they shoot well. You'll enjoy it!
If it's true to the original style make sure you half cock before you open the breach. The firing pin is one piece and will drag across the primer/shell face. A few of those with the pin being brittle, it will snap the pin off. Find a source and get a couple extras. (Experience talking)
Thanks for the heads up, where would I get spare parts for this work of art?
And the set trigger is beyond belief LIGHT once the rear trigger is set
Now you can shoot the buffalo matches
Well, the 45-70 page I'm a member of on FB, isn't impressed, apparently the manufacturing quality was a bit hit or miss
The .45-70 ... from puff loads for fun to bruiser Bison loads ... a damn versatile round and that piece of artillery will allow you to fire any of them! Nice pickup!
Absolutely gorgeous mate.
Not sure what loads it's rated for but I wouldn't want to shoot my handloads in it with that metal buttplate. I'm shooting 300 gr hp's at just under 2100 fps. My single shot Henry has a recoil pad and they are brutal off the bench. I'm looking into trying Trail Boss and 405 gr cast bullets for some lighter kicking loads.
At the moment, all I have is four boxes of HSM's Cowboy load
I've actually been looking at those too. Plenty of power for deer hunting.
Everytime I get to Garner I pick up a box of two from Cabelas
Nice new pet! Looking forward to a range report.
Just a heads up... MidwayUSA is $5.00 a box cheaper and free shipping on $49. Think I might order 5 boxes.
Damn, thanks, that's good to know
Always wanted a 45-70
Dang even better deal, Buds Gun Shop... 5 boxes with shipping comes to $25.78 ea !!!
First, it's yours. Shoot it and have fun. Wait till you meet the Sharps Snobs! You can buy a lot of ammo for the difference in $ they paid.
Well said, I was thinking the same thing
Great looking rifle. I always wanted one like that.
Do you reload?
To afford to shoot it a lot and enjoy it you'll need to reload. 300-405gr is economic plus there are plenty of smokeless recipes. Just use filler with smokless. I use a square of single ply TP. It makes the firing consistent as the powder is kept back towards the primer. No chance of over pressure but I hear a lot don't use fillers.
Do a search of the mfg and part then contact that supplier. I found one in the Midwest that was helpful. If the mfg is good to keeping to the specs then a Pedersoli part may fit with little filing.
I've done a little reloading, but I do have access to all the tools I need for 45-70, my Dad used to roll his own for a Trapdoor carbine
I've casted some 185gr collar button for my 45/70. The are great for plinking. A few grains of red dot and a collar button make a great squirrel load
Let me know if you want some to try.
Don't worry about what the haters say. If you're happy that's all that counts. It's a cool looking rifle. Let us know how she shoots.
Limb Saver Slip On recoil pad can be your friend.
Very cool !!!!
