This sh*t is good. The thread for sauces, spices and whatever you discovered...

Colman's English Mustard powder.

Comes in a little yellow can and a level teaspoon or more in whatever you rub on/wet cook beef and pork in will work wonders.

Since I started working in the beef shop, I have realised people here don't know about the powers of Colman's English Mustard.

I have used the mustard but never the powder. I typically will just use whatever Dijon on have to rub pork and beef before adding my spices. Used Dijon on my rib roast today. I was always afraid to use mustard because I thought it would mess up my flavors.

Im gonna end up trying some of this stuff just because lol

I usually avoid brands that have over the top marketing without a good referral. There are so many mediocre spices, hot sauces and b'cue sauces out there that are all marketing and no flavor.

I buy this at the Butcher Shop in Cary. It has good heat without changing the flavor of whatever you are eating. Putting in my posole today so that I can get a good proper nose run going.
I bought my last Vesta at Whole Foods.

I buy the six pack of squeeze bottles on amazon of the regular mustard. Fantastic stuff. I'll have to try the powder.

If you've a Trader Joe's nearby their Dijon mustard has a kick and is great for a couple bucks. It's very pricey on amazon.

It's really surprisingly subtle as a rub or addition to a stew but it's a definite improvement.

I'm subscribed to this guy's channel and I would say about every 3rd video, he's adding Colman's to something.

BTW if you check out Dizzy Pigs they usually offer baby sample packs. I think you can buy them plus they always send me free samples when I order. Good way to try wacky stuff. I'm not a coffee guy but they habea run with coffee that I used on burgers and it was excellent.

Used it for years in wing sauce, chili, jambalaya, stirfry, soups......glad to see another lover,of this Stuff!

I have a wing sauce recipe that only have garlic/chili paste, 16 habaneros, and a little bit of honey all blended together. It is very good, but will light up the bowells of an amateur.

No clue. Tell us more about this deer penis you eat.
Oh come on, you mean you haven’t seen that movie? Hell, they even spoofed the scene in the Elder Scrolls Four: Oblivion game.

No clue. Pop culture and video games are not my strength. As a matter of fact I couldn't tell you what Elder Scrolls is.

Ok, here watch this short clip from the movie:

The funny part is at the end of the movie, he bought a case of it.

In the game Oblivion, they spoofed it with a character making a reference to it being an alchemy ingredient.

Yeah I have no time for role playing games. Wife, 2 kids, job, hobbies and one messed up country. If I can just keep from getting fat and lazy I am doing good. Plus real life is much more interesting that games.

I guess to each their own, their choice of entertainment. Still, the scene is a cult classic. Sorry you didn’t get the reference. I’m sure anyone who does will find it funny. In any case, I’m sure you can find worse in a Chinese apothecary.

I have discovered spices in the 'International' section of the local stores AKA the Mexican section are a lot cheaper than the spices in the baking isle. Used the Mexican brisket rub on my roast tonight. My wife said it was good. I told her that's because it has feces and other animal parts in it. She was not impressed.

Like george’s bbq sauces on pork or bbq also wife talked me into trying something tonight that i never would have thought would be good and it was using just ranch dressing mix with little salt and pepper as a rub for grilled pork chops and they turned out really good. I would have thought the ranch would have been strong but was plesantly surprised.

I like the Rudy's rubs and sauce. I discovered it while in Texas and sent some back home and have ordered it online.

I buy whole spices, roast/grind/blend my own masalas and make most of my own sauces.

The few bottled (sriracha, sambal, gochujang, Zufran) I keep on hand are used to enhance what I make.

I have used dry mustard all my life.

They arw so much better made fresh, but that takes time and planning. And my wife complains abou the bafs full of spices in ‘her’ kitchen cabinets. :(

I keep all my spices, dried peppers, etc. sealed in vaccum bags and stored in a plastic bin in the pantry.

My quick go to spices are:

For blackening or bit on the spicier side: "Everglades Fish & Chicken" & "Everglades Seasoning 1/3 less salt".

General seasoning I've really come to like the Fiesta seasonings at Academy for only $2.50 per bottle. The "Chicken Rub", "Uncle Chris' Gourmet Steak Seasoning", "fajita", and "Rib Rub" have all beat out other more expensive stuff and they don't seem to be all salt.

This stuff is really good with skin on chicken on the smoker or vortex.

Good thread. I'm always on the lookout for a good dry rub to use on various cuts on the smoker. I'll have to get a couple of these to try.
As for sauces, I'm not originally from this area, so I'm more partial to ketchup based BBQ sauces. I'm originally from Iowa, and there is an Iowa company that sells regionally that I really like. We order from their website a couple of times a year. My better half is a born and raised NC girl, and even she likes their sauces.

The "wings n things" sauce is really good, has good flavor and a little spice, but is not hot. And this is coming from a guy who tends to not really care for really hot/spicy foods. Besides their wing sauce, I would say, Original, Sweet and Spicy, and Sweet Hickory are my favorites. I havent tried the Korean yet. Their "flavor enhancer" had too much salt for my tastes.
