It will soon be hot and miserably humid here, again. Till......November. ;)

Time to put up the full size and compact pistols, chambered in Gods caliber and break out a sensible summer carry gun/guns. Chambered for the Euro pellet. ;)

For me, that means a 3913 and a CS9. Slim, light weight, good capacity, easily concealed, accurate, bet your life reliable and look good doing all that. While 357 Magnum and 45 are my preferred calibers for ending recidivism in miscreants, I am ok with 9mm. But I believe you have to be more choosy when selecting what 9mm round to use. Depending on barrel length, seasonal clothing worn by potential targets ect.

So, Winchester Ranger 147 grain bonded is what is in my 9mms. It has an excellent track record in actual street use. And was designed to open and penetrate from sub 4 inch barrels. Kills bugs dead. And yes, I know about HST. ;)

Anyways, thats me and my choices. 3913s for work at the range and instructing. CS9 for work on duty in the Magistrates Office and on my own time, going to the stop and rob ect. So whats your choice for summer? Regards 18DAI

Seeing as I dont wear shorts at all...nobody wants to see that mess...I dont have a seasonal carry, I have a year round carry.
CZ P01 4:00 OWB and a 442 in my pocket.

Edited to add: 147 gr HST and 110 gr Critical Duty respectively

My 1911 hides just a well if not better than a Shield....the shield I can carry in a smaller holster so not as annoyingly hot. Would prefer a snubby in my pocket for summer quick grab and go carry.

SW 640 with Ti cylinder as my timeless go to, but I just grabbed a Ruger LCR that I might give some pocket time to. If not, off to the BST list it will go. I am committed to replacing my KT .32 which for some ridiculously unknown reason, I sold????????? 🤔

Ive carried a Shield year round since they hit the market, however earlier this year I switched to a G43x and will stick with that year round. When situations dictate I have a G43 frame I can sub in and when I need something smaller than that I have a P3AT.

Give me a P365 every day all day - LCP if I'm really traveling light. Might rotate in a J frame or LCR depending on how I feel 😉

Ruger LCP for anything without a belt, Ruger EC9 for anything with. If I'm going to anywhere in the Durham grade of scum and villainy, both of them.

I haven't put 'em on the scale, but though dimensionally they seem similar, my 640 seems so much smaller and lighter than my LCR - though I haven't carried it yet. Just ordered a set of the Ruger boot grips for it - the LCR (a bit lighter and compact than the standard factory), so we'll see how that goes.

My EDC is all season rated, a Walther PPS Gen 1 in a CompTac Infidel IWB rig at 4:00 with a DeSantis spare mag holder in my left rear pocket. Shorts and T-shirt, doesn't matter. The PPS (Police Pistol Slim) is only .99" wide and holds 6, 7, or 8 +1 depending on which mag I run. It doesn't print but is large enough to shoot well, and due to the low capacity/mass/inertia stays put while running/biking, etc. Why would I want to carry anything smaller?

I used to carry a LCP sized gun I could shoot accurately slow fire but not at a self defence firing cadence. I can shoot this PPS almost as good as I can a G19.

I'm amazed at the printing most people disregard when pocket carrying. Most of my career has been in positions where I have to interact with others in an office environment. I have yet to find a pocket gun that doesn't print like mad while sitting, or the holster will, looking like a fat wallet in your front pocket which seems just as noticeable and out of place.

You can keep the new high cap tiny pistols. Don't need the weight all in one place. Carrying an extra single stack mag is no more of an ordeal than a having a Bic lighter in your pocket, I sit on it every day and don't know it's there.

With my setup I carry a piece that is lightweight and thin enough to be unnoticeable to me (or anyone else), but large enough to shoot like a G19, along with a separate loaded mag. Slapping in a new mag can clear malfunctions that it would take longer to clear if you only had the one mag in the gun.

Edited to add:
BTW, that last point is superfluous because it's ridiculously reliable.

Curious, how does the PPS compare size wise to the Beretta Nano? Looked at one the other day and it was a bit bigger than I thought they were. Curious how the Walther compares.

The PPS is about Shield size. I bought mine like a month before the Shield came out. I would have saved $150 and bought the Shield if it had existed when I found the Walther.

That's the Nano on the left.

If the replacement cost wasn't so danged prohibitively high, I would dig out my SW 432 and tote it around a while, but to try and replace that one would make me a bit lightheaded.

The way things are going, I think this is a sensible summer setup...

Belted khaki shorts, Kimber Ultra Carry II .45ACP 230gr Gold Dots. Milt Sparks Summer Special IWB leather holster + extra loaded mag. Loose dark shirts hide it well.
Gym shorts, Ruger LCP 9mm Kurz 90gr Speer Gold Dots or Hornady Critical Defense. Sticky Pocket Holster + 1 extra loaded mag. The Ruger is headshot capable within 15 yards. I figure it needs to be.
I don’t wanna look like the dead fools at the workplace murders. I carried at every job I worked, every step, every day. Wife says waste of effort and could have gotten me fired. I didn’t care then, care even less now. Sign says NO GUN? Sorry dear, let me go back and get the Combat Commander. Probably need a bigger load-out in here.😂

My carry pieces for the past year have been a G17 in a CJ pancake holster and a G43 in my right front pocket as back up. I simply don't see that changing very much unless I have to adjust somewhat for dress.

I like these two paired up and dress around them most days.

Mine are the same two guns year round. Mostly a CZ P10S in a CJ pancake or a CZ PCR in a CJ pancake. Although I do carry the PCR everyday on my bicycle ride in an Alien Gear chest rig. Both loaded with Winchester Ranger 124g +p+.

Grips are like bicycle seats, very personal to each individual - but have a look at the Badger boot grips. I have a pair on an LCR and they fit my hand way better than OEM grips, and the shape absorbs recoil well. They are also less grabby (of clothing) than the OEM rubber. You have to get past the gaudy laminates and look at the tung oil finished walnut:

G23 or G21 in a CJ OWB…365 days a year.

Quality AIWB holster + quality belt + having a chest that’s bigger than one’s waist = you could carry a large gun or a small car during the summer and no one would know the difference.

Most of the time it’s a 19 in a @RR owb holster. Luckily my employer is pro 2a and knows I’m armed all the time. Spare mag in pocket. In the door of my truck is a 33 round mag

124 gr hst

I try to avoid leaving the house for anything other than work. 😀

Given that, I am generally carrying my duty gun, a Glock 45 with 147 Speer Gold Dot G2.

On those occasions I have to go out off-duty I carry either a combination of small revolvers or a small revolver and either a Springfield Hellcat, Glock 19, or Beretta 92G Compact and a small revolver.

At present I am at the park with my kids. I’m carrying a Ruger LCR .38 Special and a S&W 442-1 both loaded with standard pressure Buffalo Bore 158 grain SWCHP.

full size gov 1911 is fine in summer... but not if rain is in the forecast

anything smaller is easy

Glock 19 strong side OWB or IWB and a glock 43 in the weak side pocket or IWB. Sometimes around the house I will OWB the 43 strong side. When it gets hot as hades and concealment is absolutely paramount I will take the 43 alone.
