Titegroup and cold weather...

I'm going to try to shoot the IDPA match at Pappy's and maybe also the Falling Steel, I'd like to discuss because I just picked up some tite group and extreme 147s on Tre Roach's advice. I only bought 1 pound to see if I liked it. First batch didn't run my gun but it's a 3" barrel and it was cold, not as cold as the match you were shooting but your op did make me wonder if I should wait until it's a bit warmer and check them again before bumping up the grains.
I would definitely wait until we have some “normal” temps to actually gather data. The situation I seen yesterday is definitely the exception rather than the rule. It doesn’t stay 12 degrees around here very long. You’re likely to be fine with TG as it’s worked very well for me for several years. This post was by no means to bash TG, it’s great powder.

And you definitely should shoot the Falling Steel match. Lots of fun!

I didn't think you were bashing. It was an informative post.
Thankfully it doesn't stay 12 long here otherwise I'd be gone.

Plated is going to act more like jacketed as far as pressure, by that I mean it will not build as rapidly as the bullet does not obturate as readily as a cast bullet, 3.4gr is starting data for a Jacketed hollowpoint.

Coated acts just like lead in that regard, 3.2 is over max going by Lyman's data for cast, they load it real short though.

3.2 runs 905 with a coated bullet out of my G17, with a stock spring my wife could make it malfunction. With a 11 or 13 it's as reliable as gravity at normal spring to fall temps anyway.

I have switched to Clean Shot from Shooter’s World for my 9mm loads.

I didn't chrono today, but POI was not significantly different at 6° today from 60° using Cleanshot in 9mm @ 20yds.
Gun didn't seem slow either, was definitely not the limiting factor.

Why does everyone think that it being called light is bad?

I load all my 9mm and 45 ammo as light as it can be. If it’s not cycling the gun, it’s too light, so going from 3.2 to 3.3gr may provide better consistency and still be a functionally “light” load. I wouldn’t call 3.3 or 3.4gr hot by any stretch of the word

Let me be clear: You can call it whatever you prefer to call it. I promise I do not in any way feel insulted, feel my manhood is questioned, feel that we are arguing, etc etc if you choose to call a load "light". I do not feel it is "bad" if you call it this.
Honestly it doesn't seem anybody felt that way to me?

I developed a load that is appropriate for the game I am playing with the gun I am using. And I've used it for tens of thousands of rounds with good results.
I appreciate your insights, but not really sure what you want me to say. Should I add a grain or two to make you feel better, lol?

You weren’t the one who got offended lol

If it works for you, all the better. :D

I can't wait for your new Tangy to show up...just so you have to use another powder. @NKD is the most boring reloader I have ever met.
10k rds of the exact same load.

(He won't even change primer brand...too exciting for him)

Federal has 2 different 9mm headstamps, "FC" & "Federal"...he sorts them by weight...just in case.

Your vocabulary isn’t extensive enough to offend me. Sorry...

The fact that you just had to reply to that says a lot.

You’re derailing your own thread getting bent out of shape for no reason.

Okey dokey. Just replying to something because you quoted me. You keep saying people are "mad" and "offended".

I don't think that anybody is mad or offended. Except maybe you?

Oh my, no. I use something very similar and have no issues. G34 or G17L 3.2 grains of TG but use the coated 147's and it runs great.

Try some of these.

I actually just finished loading my first 3K of 147 gr Acme Bullets a few days ago. So far they’ve been pretty good. I loaded them with a whopping 3.1 gr of TG! Talk about getting the light load internet police worked up! Lol52161131-2731-46E3-871A-B4FE311B699E.jpeg

LOL, I'm late as usual. I did notice they have about 15-20 fps increase over other bullets. I kept it to 3.2 just for peace of mind for cycle reliability in the 17L.

Have you tried the ACME bullets in the cold yet?

As long as you don’t shoot “light” loads through them. :)

Please quote that for me. I don’t see it anywhere in the thread besides you making it up

Ok, since we're admitting how light we are, I usually use 3.0 grains.

It says right on the jug-
"A little goes a long way."

Anyone who loads over 3 grains is just wasting powder!

Pro tip, you can enlarge the flash hole and use a magnum primer to save even more powder!

;)

Chaulk them up in a lathe, enlarge the primer pocket, throw some large magnums in there. Reload like a boss.
