Prayers for the victims:

Authorities said one woman was killed and seven others were wounded after a 26-year-old African-American man wearing a ski mask opened fire at a Tennessee church Sunday.

Police say the gunman wore a neoprene ski mask when he shot and killed a woman in the parking lot of Burnette Chapel Church of Christ, as the service was ending shortly after 11 a.m. With his blue Nissan Xterra still running, the gunman then entered the rear sanctuary doors of the church and began "indiscriminately" shooting, police said.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A masked gunman entered a church in Tennessee on Sunday and opened fire, killing at least one person and injuring seven others before apparently shooting himself, an official said.

Don Aaron, spokesman for the Metro Nashville Police Department, said the gunman arrived at the parking lot as services were ending at the Burnette Chapel Church of Christ in the neighborhood of Antioch. The suspect fatally shot a woman who was walking to her vehicle, then entered the rear of the church, and six people were shot. Aaron says a churchgoer who confronted the gunman was pistol-whipped by the suspect, who then shot himself.

The gunman and five others were treated for gunshot wounds at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Aaron said. One gunshot victim and the man who was pistol-whipped were taken to Skyline Medical Center for treatment.

One person was killed and eight others wounded Sunday after a man in a ski mask opened fire following a church service in Antioch.

The shooter, identified as Emanuel Kidega Samson, a 25-year-old Rutherford County man, accidentally shot himself after he was
confronted by an armed member of the congregation...

Wear your gun, it does you no good left in your vehicle:

An usher confronted the shooter while inside the church and was violently pistol whipped, Aaron said. During the confrontation with the usher, the gunman shot himself in the left chest, Aaron said. The gunman is in non-critical condition and is under guard at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, he said.

After the struggle, the usher exited the sanctuary, got a gun from his vehicle and guarded the shooter until police arrived, Aaron said.

When my Pastor first came to my church he was not to fond of the idea of members carrying but the Trustees and Council “guided him” in that matter. While he doesn’t care for it still I think in the past year he has become aware sometimes there are those who have to do things because evil doesn’t stop at the door. While all members in the church can exercise their CHP rights a select few are a little more “in tune” with each other. This action though does again show anytime ... anywhere ... keep your powder dry!

I took my pastor the gun range. He knows i carry at church. I am fairly sure a few other members do as well but i cant be certain. He carries when he is at the church during the week. The secratary has a revolver in her desk. No one really makes a stink over it.

Prayers for those affected. It seems some folks have an aversion to carrying at church, I say arm up, and the heavier the better. Mas Ayoob is an advocate of a larger primary sidearm with one reload if its a double stack or two if it's a single stack, plus a BUG.

CC in church? That's just plain dumb. I mean, some crazy moron comes in and kills you? Ha! Instant one way ticket to heaven. You win!

My pastor carries along with roughly 50% of our congregation. It would be a bad day for anyone to come there with ill intent.
Half the crowd carrying? Seems like a perfect opportunity for a bad crossfire situation. :D

When I was a pastor, I didn't carry in church, even though everyone knew I was THE "gun guy" in that church. I had my "church political" reasons. With that said, I knew several of the deacons and other members carried. Even better, they sat such that they could provide covering fire on any entrance without crossfire. We had a small sanctuary and anyone with some rudimentary shooting skills could cover the place.

I wanted a pulpit gun something fierce, but decided against it for the above mentioned political reasons. I told the deacons, et al who carried that I would be happy to distract anyone who came in looking for trouble, but would appreciate them speedily handling the situation. :)

A holy hand grenade? How about a holy shotgun. Behold, the hammer of God.

Just another hard working immigrant committing an act of love. Can't wait to hear the entire back story on this one. Although we likely won't. The media might just have to 'disappear' this story.
Sudanese immigrant shooter, so the only thing of interest here for the media is the evil gun.

The first MSN article I saw had in this order: the gun, the shooters name, the unarmed guy who confronted him and then had to retrieve his gun, and last but not least a statement about how the real heros are the police and other responders.

Where were the police? the left keeps telling us we don't need guns, the police will be there when needed. The police were once again, the after action force.

Exactly. At best, they are second responders.

The victim (s) or potential victim (s) are the ones who must respond first.

Media could run a while with "bigoted, narrow minded homophobic hypocritical Christians shoot poor black immigrant who was seeking to raise awareness of immigration issues" and see if that has any legs.

Or "It's tragic that this poor immigrant, distressed over the surge in xenophobic violence that's overtaken this country since November 8, felt that he had no other outlet for his fear. The lax gun laws in Tennessee made it easy for him to express his fear and anger in a somewhat inappropriate, albeit understandable manner."

Working the A/V soundboard I have a nice view and angles.

Kinda like ... I ain’t afraid of dying but I sure ain’t in a big hurry!
Kinda reminds me of BST, no not Buy Sell Trade, Blood Sweat and Tears...

I can say there ain't no heaven
But, I pray there ain't no hell

But Momma once told me a pistol was the Devil's right hand, the Devil's right hand.

Shot himself while pistol whipping an usher who tackled him.

Lesson here...don't hold your pistol by the barrel when pistol whipping someone.

My coworker got his concealed permit with his wife, he helps out at his community church, teaches bible class, etc,
asked the Pastor if he can carry concealed in the church, Pastor says YES you should, in fact the Pastor and his wife also got their permits.

I don't understand why some think that carrying a gun in a church should be verboten. To me it seems as silly as saying they should be prohibited from schools because they're supposed to feel like a "safe" place.
SC actually has a statewide law preventing it, right?

I say that God's law trumps man's law every time. Didn't Jesus say that if you have two cloaks, sell one and buy a Winchester lever-action .30-30? Or, was it a CZ75?

You have to have premission from the church to carry there. At my church we have around 70 people on Sundays. Only a hand full are allowed to carry me being one of them. I always stand near the door where I have a very good field of view outside and I can see anyone coming.
