Trail camera pictures

I struggled to not test my luck this season. I know if I arrowed that bad boy, he would die on my neighbor’s front porch and it would look like a murder scene with a big blood streak where I dragged him back to my house.

I put a new trail camera on my driveway over the weekend, up closer to the house, and this was on there from this morning. 2 deer had walked through shortly before he showed up.

Now I need to figure out how to get him. He was about 30 yds from my front door. Some of my bee hives are in the back ground and a night light is just above them. My pasture is to the left about 35 yds with the goats and Great Pyrenees. I hope he doesn't get in the pasture, but if he does, Jax is 110 lbs of pure muscle and takes his protection job seriously.

Do you have to have a trapping license to trap one of these in your own yard in NC? I have a hunting license and know I can shoot him, but if he is only coming out at night, a trap might be best.

I believe there are exceptions for depredation. You will want to read the rules for depredating wildlife as sometimes it can be done with a free permit and other times it requires a free depredation permit. I’m not well versed in wildlife laws. See the link below.

your yard, do as you please.

Obviously not a trail cam pic, but would be a cool place to put one. Rabbit hunting yesterday, and obviously having too much fun to record anything but this yesterday. Also pondered going back with a smoke bomb and see if he’s home.

What am I looking at? A dog, coyote, or a fox? Either way it has the mange.

I'm going with Bob cat.
The ugly possum tail might just be a piece of wood.
I have never seen a bobcat around here.

That “piece of wood” isn’t in the other pictures

Since we live in the same general area, I just thought I would chime in with my experience with bobcats. I grew up in this area, primarily living in the same house out in the woods for most of my life, and thought bobcats were either a myth or existed far far away from my location.

Starting about two years ago I had my first bobcat sighting on a game cam, and there are at least two that I see pics of on a regular basis. What changed two years ago? I moved from one section of rural woodland, about 5 miles down the road, to a similar section of rural woodland. But for whatever reason this one is crawling with critters. I even have an otter that frequently commutes past one of my cameras. From where to where? I dunno cause there really isn't any significant water nearby.

All I can figure is that since I am off of a secondary road now vs a primary road, the critters we don't think are around, actually are, but just concentrated in areas where they are less likely to be frequently and randomly killed via traffic.
