Looking for trap shooting instructor in the Wake Forest NC. This would be for very new trap shooters but not new to firearms. I belong to a club we could use for training.

While you await fruit from your search, our weekly skeet group was in the exact same predicament when members decided to start dedicating the 3rd Wed of each month to trap.

We found all we needed and more via YouTube, I.e. “it’s a game consisting of hold points and break points” and, “it’s a very simple game, once you SEPARATE the hands and the eyes” …

That's a pretty good study of trap. Another thing an ex-navy pilot advised me, he is a great trap/skeet shooter, is don't wait too long getting the target sighted and firing. You might be out of range real quickly if you wait too long. the type choke you're using could effect that range.

Trap is normally shot with 12 ga. and a full choke. Just for self-punishment, I shoot it with a 28 ga. and so try to shoot earlier and with a bit more open choke. I shot 12 ga. trap for years some time ago and finally got bored with it. With the 28 I don't get bored, but on the other hand I don't hit a lot of the targets right now.

But even with the 12, you don't want to wait too late. Not because your pattern will open up too much, but because you'll be shooting at a falling target -- and that's not a good percentage shot. There's a sort of sweet spot out there where it appears to just sort of "hang" for a second. That's where you want your load to hit it. At least as I recall. :)
