What have you done to your 15-22? I am looking for ideas.

I really want to change the quadrail hand guard out. To those of you who have done it, how hard is it and what did you put back on?

I really like Kineti-Tec stuff!!!

Barrel Shrouds are designed to fit nicely with the barrel and handguards. The brake portion of the shroud really works nicely too!!

EDIT*: Use the Design your own Shroud to get what you want! Also has 9mm, .223 shrouds for other AR platforms!

I went as far as throwing a Chinese EOTech 512 knock-off on it. :D
I do love shooting that gun. Cheap too. I'll keep an eye on this and see what you guys can convince me to spend some $ on.

Cut the barrel to 4.5”. Cut a little off the factory handguard. Tuck a Form 1 silencer inside. Buy some 50rd drums. Add a red dot. Shoot. Giggle. Repeat.

I’ve never changed mine. Or, admittedly, looked at the factory setup too close. Can you not reuse the factory pins with an aftermarket trigger?

The 15-22 receiver is slightly wider than an AR. So, if you ditch the S&W OEM pins as I did, you need to get specific replacements.

I used the pins that came with the CMC trigger. I assume the screw heads are locked down on the receiver, instead of bottomed out on the pins. Hmm.

I just don’t like how the quad rail feels in hand. I put the magpul covers on it but it’s really wide then. Eventually, my son will be shooting it and a smaller handguard would be useful.

I did the handguard, barrel, and trigger on mine. Really like it. It's insane how light it is now.

@kcult and @BigWaylon who cut down your barrels? I have a extra one laying around and been thinking about turning it into a SBR.

A local machine shop did mine as a favor for all the business I was sending them.

@BigWaylon sent me the drawing for the threads and the shop did the rest.

@BigWaylon would you mind sending me a PM of the drawings?

But the OEM pins should work with an aftermarket AR trigger if I wasn’t going with anti-walk pins?

Mine was done with the Silencerco o-ring spec threads because I ran a Spectre on it for years. Now I have the Form 1 can on it and standard threads would work.

ADCO is who cut it down. The PDF is gone from the source I had it, and I’m not finding it on SiCo’s site. You could probably email them for it. But if you’re using anything other than a SiCo rimfire can, a standard .400” 1/2-28 thread should work.

How hard was removing the barrel nut and handguard?

It’s simple. You can buy a wrench, borrow one, or make your own from PVC.

It’s just a long tube with four prongs. I think I have two of them. If you were local you’d be welcome to borrow one. But they’re not really expensive, so probably easier to just buy one unless you’re gonna use it once and swap to an aftermarket adapter going forward.

I think the Volquartsen barrel even came with the tool - Soni didn't have to buy it. I'm pretty sure I bought the handguard adapter from tacticool22.com or something like that. It wasn't hard - as others have noted. Just need the right tool for the job.

So if you take the barrel but off, does any proprietary barrel nut work to put The barrel back on? Say I wanted to use an aero s-one handguard, then the aero barrel nut would go on the rifle?

I got it on wish.com. There's a few different sellers. Be careful on that site. My account was hacked but they never bought anything. Customer service sucked but after a month it was finally worked out. I don't save any credit card info on that site...

UPDATE: So I tried to go search for EOTech 512 on there and came up with nothing. I think they're finally cracking down on the copies. I went through the order history and remembered I bought a magnifier too! Need to dig that up and put it on too...
I don't see my 512 there anymore but this knock-off 551 is on there.
