So I’m in the process of building my new Spikes Lower, and I’m building this for a future 6mm ARC rifle. I’ve only ever ran mil-spec triggers with the exception of my current RRA rifle with the NM trigger. I’m wanting to try a trigger more like the CMC, Timney, AIM, etc. I’m not looking to break the bank, but I understand these are not exactly cheap. So what is everyone’s preference for drop in triggers, and why? And of course if anyone has a used one, I’d be interested. Thanks in advance guys and gals.

When you say drop in, I assume you mean the type in a "cartridge" type format? Ive not had any real direct experiences with those....

But if you want an excellent trigger, for a very nice price try one of the Larue triggers.... they are around 80$ these days and are worlds ahead of an average parts kit trigger. They also are made of s7 tool steel, which is nice.

If you are worried about being able to do it yourself, if you can uninstall a regular AR trigger, you should be fine installing another.

No worries on the installation, I’ve assembled plenty of AR style rifles, but yes I’m referencing an all-in-one trigger system. I’ve tried nearly all of the standard style triggers and of those I’ve liked the RRA National Match the best so far, but everyone raves about the drop in, all-in-one styles, so that’s my next step. Thanks for the recommendation though!

I like my Geissele SSA-E the best, but it is not a self contained, modular drop in. I also have an older POF 2 stage that I like. I believe it is 3.5 pounds , but it might be 4.5. Regardless, it is a pretty good trigger, IMHO. But the POF's also used to be pretty cheap by comparison. I think I paid $99 for mine a few years back. Now they are $150 - $200 and you can get a Timney or an ELF for nearly the same money. I run a Timney Calvin Elite on my Bergara chassis rifle and I LOVE it. But I have not shot a Timney AR trigger, so I can't say if they are as good. I've also not shot an ELF trigger yet, but a few folks I know that have them on their AR's seem to love them.

You need to decide if you want a single stage or two stage and go from there. Intended use will also play a factor in trigger selection as well.

Personally I run a geissele sd3g in my sbr. I have used both that trigger and the SSA-E in a rifle I have setup for 2 and 3 gun. I had a long range gas gun and the clear choice for that was the SSA-E.

This will hopefully be a new medium-long range rig to sit alongside the 6.5CM. The new 6mm ARC cartridge looks promising, so that’s the destiny of this lower.

CMC can be had for about $130 when on sale........it's a very good trigger. I have a Geissele that I paid about double that for......If I would have known about CMC then, I would have bought it instead if the Geissele.

Wilson Combat TTU drop in triggers are fantastic.

The Calvin Elite AR trigger is pretty sweet.

Current political climate not being taken into account, I've bought CMC triggers for as low as $89 and bought several for $99. This has spoiled me. When I see them on sale for $130, I'm never excited.

That being said, I have these in all of my ARs (3.5# flat face) and I love them. The only other one I've tried was the equivalent AIM Surplus that I caught on sale. I didn't like it as much as the CMC, so I sold it.

I also agree with the single stage, double stage comment above. All but one of mine is single stage. A double stage sits in my hunting rig (2# set, 2# release).

Please....where did you get them for that price?

Various places. Yeah, that helps a lot, I know. Lol

Seriously, though. I just keep my eyes open and wait on the major holiday sales. I think I've only scored one at $89, but I have bought several for $99. I've had my best luck with Primary Arms and Tombstone Tactical. At TT, they were offering fixed shipping, so adding triggers brought down the per piece price.

Most of my rifles have a Geissele trigger in them. My competitions rifles have the hi-speed NM triggers, carbines have the G2S and my wife's 3-gun rifle has a S3G. All great triggers and customer service is top notch. Bill shows up at Camp Perry for the national rifle/pistol matches each year and offers free tune-ups for all his triggers.

Generally the RRA NM trigger is a good buy, but quality can be hit or miss. I used one the first season I shot highpower rifle competition with an AR and mine was great but other shooters have reported far worse. Mine saw heavy use and it eventually wore out though, whereas I replaced it with the Geissele.

I've got 3 rifles with CMC 3.5# flat triggers and 5 trigger packs laid back for my future needs.
Simple installation and they work for me, I've never tried any of the other drop ins.
I've gotten mine from Primary Arms holiday sales over the years.

For multigun and carbine matches, the Hiperfire 3gun/eclipse triggers have worked great for me. They get down to just over 2lbs I think. For PCC, Ive been using a POF 3.5lb flat. I wish it were a pound lighter, but it's reliable and has a crisp break.

For something more precision-y, I'd look at Trigger Tech diamond, AR Gold, these are both short two stage I believe, or Calvin Elite. These can be had under 2lbs.

Just my opinion.

I haven’t used the trigger tech, at gold, pof, but between the cmc and geissele triggers i I prefer the geissele. I wouldn’t mind trying the others though.

I had a cmc in a rifle and had a few light primer strikes while hunting and it left a bad taste in my mouth. Might have just been a fluke but it’s been in the back of my mind ever since.

I've got a POF 4.5 that's crisp and awesome if you want a medium weight trigger. Better in every way than a milspec trigger, but not so light to be a factor in negligent discharges if your wife or cousin grab your rifle.

I have 4 ars with timney single stage triggers 3.5# to 4.5, they are my favorite ones. I Bought a Elftmann SE but that was kind of gritty and sold it. I had good luck with a Rise armament Trigger contrary to issues Charliesgrave had. I think I have a cmc trigger in a m&p 15-22. but yeah I only use timneys on ar's that I complete with. The NiB trigger I got in a Colt competition was very nice, it lives in a KS47 now.

I was looking at the 3.5lb CMC flat bow trigger for my 5.56, but found a Geissele SS-P flat bow at Primary Arms for $170 bucks. Couldn't pass that up.

I've got ALG's in the other 3 ARs & like 'em well enough, but wouldn't mind trying either the Larue single stage or the CMC in my 6.8. That gun already shoots amazingly well & a nice trigger would just be the icing on the cake.
