I shot my FNX .45 suppressed for the first time today. It was also the first time I have shot it with the MRO I just got from Cabelas. I am running a Griffin Revolution .45 in full length configuration. I was very impressed with the suppression. Ran it dry and it was well in the hearing safe decibel range, with the bullet hitting the steel being far louder than the shot. I was shooting up the last of some Federal American Eagle 230 grain ball I had around.

With that said, I couldn't run through a full mag without the MRO's front glass face getting covered in powder residue - enough that it was very hard to sight through. Using both eyes open (which is hard for me due to cross dominance issues, but I am working on it), it was possible to make shots on man-sized targets, but you could forget about actually seeing through the optic. It just became a gray blur with a reticle. It was pretty humid out, since we had just had a thunderstorm pass through, and condensation was also a factor, but it wasn't a problem when I wasn't shooting.

Is this just the way it is shooting suppressed with an optic? I didn't try it unsuppressed to see how it did. I assume there would be a lot less blow back unsuppressed.

Just curious what is a realistic expectation to have, whether I should try different ammo that might burn cleaner, etc., etc. Thanks in advance for any observations or suggestions!

I am not sure. I have the same handgun with Gemtec suppressor. I can't tell that it gets more or less dirty with or without. I bet @BigWaylon would have some thoughts on it.

I've never shot a suppressed pistol with an optic. But, based on what my safety glasses look like afterwards, I'm not surprised by your findings. :D

Most pistol/suppressor combinations result in a decent amount of blowback. I saw a guy on ARFCOM make a rubber washer/bushing for his hosts that cut down on it quite a bit.
