I've been converted to the old K.I.S.S. principle as of late.
Though I've always had a soft spot for the original AR/M16 platform, the A2 especially since all my real trigger time on Active Duty was with a Colt A2.
About two weeks ago I found a new in the box Troy Industries GAU-5/A/A 5.56MM upper on consignment at an LGS a friend of mine owns.
So I put it on hold, and picked it up today.

In the box, this little gem is beautiful. Only issue is the bolt carrier is cut for a forward assist, and I don't believe the original had those. But I'll double check and verify it.
I temporarily installed it on the lower for my Bushmaster pseudo Israeli carbine, and I'm in love again with light weight, no frills AR's.....

Did a little studying of my current crop of AR projects, and decided that my old school XM177 aluminum collapsible stock would be more at home on this build, especially since I have some serious work to do on the 9mm PCC.
So at this moment, my only other questionable parts are the trigger, it's currently a parts is parts set up, in other words, the usual crap AR trigger.
So we'll see what's in the cards.

Old school "retro" AR's here, not into the have everything hanging here and there. Finding all kinds of
ole AR parts bought decades ago (when you are packing), Colt parts, chrome bolt carrier groups, uppers,
ole Sendra lowers, here's a old picture, of course the one in the center is not an AR but a HK91A1
