Truck Advice

Ford has gotten a lot of the issues worked out with their turbos.
Eh idk man people are still burning up turbos on diesel trucks and ecoboosts.

Make sure you thank Obama and Cash For Clunkers.
Honestly yeah, that screwed it up big time. Made it even difficult to find parts for quite a few vehicles because the junkyards are missing wrecked / blown up vehicles from the 90s/early 2000s

Ignition switch is small box lower on the column, activated by metal pushrod linked to ignition cylinder lock.
Agree to test the starter, one bad winding will case no start. AutoZone tested wife's starter four times finally it showed fail.

There is a used Tacoma in FS.

It looks like that one has the 6' bed also?

I'd slap some paint on the crease to keep it from rusting and drive the wheels off of it.

Wait.... Hatred of Ford and you went out and bought a fiat? 🤣

Are new Chrysler products any good? I still have PTSD from a 95 ram, 00 xj and a (04?) pt loser. Not to mention working on a buddies Dakota CONSTANTLY
I have always owned GMC trucks. I went looking for a new one and told my wife I was gonna look at Ford, GM and Dodge. I narrowed down the trim package I wanted and the GMC was 8k more than the Ram. I test drove a F150 Lariat and it wasn’t comfortable to me. I felt the seat squished me and I’m not a skinny but not real big. It’s just the way the seats are shaped. I loved the way the Ram felt so I went for it. I’ve owned it for 3 years and have over 56k miles with zero issues. Only thing I’ve done except normal service and tires is I had to replace the back glass unit as it shattered due to cold when I was in CT last Christmas. Only recall that has come up is something about the tailgate falling open unexpectedly. Told my wife I don’t care if it falls off. It really has been a good reliable truck. Now the 5.7 isn’t shy on using gas. They advertise 19mpg but I get 18. I drive pretty heavy footed. When I’m just driving around town I get about 14.

Sure, but they're nothing like the guaranteed timebomb they were when ford first started to use then so much. Ask any diesel guy if they want to go back to NA engines.

Dodge was the smoothest riding truck I drove when I was shopping in the sub 22k range in 2020. I just don't know how they hold up long term so I bought a 16k Chevy and paid it off just a few weeks ago lol

Don’t get me wrong I’m not stupid brand loyal to any car manufacturers. They all produce most of stuff overseas. And I will look at GM again for my next. One thing I wish they would fix is give me a truck with good HP. Mine is 400hp but to get more I have to go to 700hp at 100k. Why not give me a 550hp option. GM has the 6.2 or something that is like 460 or something. Give me options. Let’s face it if I wanted economy I would drive something else. Sorry don’t want to derail the OPs thread.

My wife is interested in a Maverick. I stopped at the lot Sunday to browse while they were closed. First, it doesn’t look like two can fit in the back seat unless the two in the front seat are short.

There were multiple rows of F150’s available.
Two Mavericks.

Base price is 20K but based on how this lower end model was minimally trimmed out, at $32K, I think that’s the price point you’ll be at, or more.

Hyundai now has a new small truck-like vehicle. I haven’t looked at it. I bought new Hyundais in 2013 and 2015 and while I was real happy with them early on, my dealer experiences with warranty issues, etc, and the Cary dealer in general has driven me to the conclusion I won’t buy another Hyundai.

No derail at all really, I am trying to learn.

I still chuckle when someone here says "just pull the X and test it" and I am like "You realize I do good knowing right goes vroom vroom and left goes stoppiepoo."

NOOOOOOOOOOO

If you would have told me 10 years ago I’d pay 55k for a vehicle I’d say you’ve lost your mind. Ive driven older stuff a lot of my life. I had a 95 Jeep grand Cherokee Laredo that I got from a friend that had 125k on it. I gave it to a guy in 2016 with 334k on it. Same motor and rebuilt tranny of course. Burned and leaked oil but that’s normal for a 4.0 with that mileage. Crazy easy vehicle to work on. My truck now I opened the hood and put it right back down. No room to breathe in there.

Cannot speak if the 5.0 is actually gone but finding a non fully loaded 5.0 stock crew cab was basically impossible. It seems those buying new coyotes in the 2014ish days had lariat money.

Maybe I'm a boomer but I refuse to go twin turbo and deal with all that crap. Plus my wife wouldn't remember to leave the truck running for a few minutes after highway driving to let the turbos cool down.

You must be a boomer, you absolutely don’t have to let these turbos cool down anymore.

I'm a boomer at heart lol.

Is that a recent thing or has it been that way for awhile ? (15+ years?)

I couldn’t say exactly when, but they’re putting turbos in just about everything now days and you’re not going to find that in any service manual. That’s an old school practice that simply isn’t necessary anymore. The oils and turbos are better and unless you just got done pulling a trailer up Pikes Peak at a high rate of speed, you don’t need to let them cool.

Every time I have to do anything to my car, I think I should just buy a truck. Then I look at used or new prices and decide I’ll just keep driving what I have…

When I got a bigger boat, I needed a bigger truck. Found a F150, 4door, 4WD, 5.0 motor. I don't drive it daily, I have a car and Bikes for that. I use it for truck stuff, hunting, fishing, dump runs, probably gets 2-3K miles a year on it. Ben a good truck for me so far.
That was my upgrade from an older 2000 Ranger.
