As I mentioned a couple months ago I was trying some Kraken Dark Rum. I like it so much I wanted to try some other dark rum. Drinking it over ice.

Any suggestion?

Pusser's Rum is my favorite and only rum I will drink. A little pricey but it's the real deal.

you owe it to CFF to try this one...

Oakheart for mixing with fruit punch and orange juice ladies like it. This is the main rum they used in rum drinks with fuit juice.
Anniversarino might be for sipping but have to try a little soda too
Kragen is for BIG blocks of ice ONLY

Next, I am going to try Ernest Hemmingway Rum. A bit more pricey and it is going to be hard to beat the Kragen for taste and price.

I like Zaya 12 year old. Love it.

Agreed. Ron Zacapa 23 is also a great sipping rum. You might try to find Ron Centenario XX Años as well. Great rums for sipping, but I prefer them neat. Drinking them at room temperature seems to open up the nuanced flavors.

I have a nice little selection, I only drink rum, but rarely drink period. Not a big fan of the super dark rums.

Some notables:
Queen Charlotte Reserve: local CLT rum, surprisingly good but nothing ground breaking
Mount Gay: my current favorite for casual drinking, not too expensive and available almost everywhere
Old Man Guavaberry Wild Lime: absolutely love this stuff! Not super dark, but the smoothest rum I've ever had, the hint of lime is a nice touch. Sadly only available in St Marteens, so I have family bring bottles back from vacation/cruises
Appleton Estate: grabbed this while in Jamaica, but actually not a huge fan. Mount Gay is a much nicer, smoother drink

Brugal gets my vote, the 1888 is smooth and tasty sadly it is gone. I just picked up a bottle of there Anjeo home last night and is a good substitute for about half of the price.

If you can find it Rob De Jeremy Spiced Rum is hands down the best run I have ever had. I ran across it about 4-5 years ago in Florida and it was $12 a bottle now it's roughly $30 if I want to order it online but it's worth it. Very smooth, great taste and if you enjoy a rum and coke it tastes like a Vanilla Coke and sneaks up on you.

Next time I go to the Bahamas I'm bringing back as much Tortuga as I legally can. For myself. Burnedoutgeek is out of luck.....
Told ya it was good.

Also, we're probably going back next year if all goes as planned. I'll grab you some, which flavor did you like?

Good Lord! Pusser's Rum has got to be the absolute NASTIEST rum I've ever had!

I still remember where, too...The Captain's Cabin, Gibraltar! The year was probably 1994.

For a Pound, you could sign their log book, get a card for it, and a shot of Pusser's Rum.

I sniffed the rum...and it curled my nose hair. So I though "Well, I'll slam it down and get it over with!"

So I tossed the shot...and my throat IMMEDIATELY said "THE F*CK OUTTA HERE!" and closed up.

Now I've got a shot of this nasty rum in my mouth that I just CAN'T get down...but d*mned if I'm gonna spit it out!

And my tongue is now yelling "THE F*CK OUTTA HEAR!", too!

A few tries got it down...a bit at a time.

I spent the rest of the afternoon feeling like I had just swallowed burning hot gravel and nothing I ate or drank would make the taste go away.

I've had many different rums over the years, but THAT stuff I wouldn't try in a lawn mower!

Anyway...my absolute most favorite I discovered in Seychelles (an island about a thousand miles or so North and East of Madagascar) back in January of 2016. Takamaka Bay Dark. It's not sold in the States, but you can occasionally find it on one of the online booze companies that ships. One of these days I'll order me several bottles.

Captain Morgan Sherry oak finish is in the running for the best tasting rum I have tried. Drink it over ice with just enough diet Coke that I can pretend it's a mixed drink.

I tried some from a distillery in MD called Seacrets. I'm no expert, but I didn't think it was supposed to smell like cologne.

You said Seacrets and MD. 1st thing that came to mind is the club/bar/wishes it was Jamaica/party place in Ocean City and a quick google search showed me they sure enough have a distillery now. I guess if you sell the most booze in an area might as well make your own. Too funny. Just like the drinks they make, I am sure thier liquor is crap! It's where people go to party though and it is fun if that's what you like.

St. James 10 year aged. It is Martinique's premier IMHO.

The last time I found it in the states was in Atlanta.

Here is a great site that has ratings for rum. More than the ratings I like the flavor profile notes that they call Flavour Sprials and tasting notes. So if you are looking for a particular flavor profile you can try to match it.

Ron de Barrillito is also a good value if you can get it. I bought a ton of it cheap last time I was in Puerto Rico.

We drank a lot of Chairman's Reserve in St Lucia.

Yeah, I travel to OC every year. I'm actaully trying to get back more than once this year, since the fishing wasn't good last month. I don't know if all their liquor is crap, but whatever spices they put in their rum make is smell like an old man's cologne. Maybe their other stuff is good, I can't say.

We all bought rum cheap when we were in Puerto Rico...the land of rum for a nickel a barrel!

Last time I was there, Ron Bacardi was $4.95 a bottle...Reserve, Superior, Anejo, 1873, Gold, 151...it was all $4.95 a bottle.

So this thread got interested in rums. My go to when I rarely drink rum has been Mt Gay. I grabbed a bottle of the Kraken at the ABC, and I gotta say I'm not a fan. It reminds me of cough medicine. I guess I'll stick to my bourbon, scotch and vodka.
