trying to buy a queen sized mattress/boxspring during the lock down

Excellent. Now send the boys out on an errand, grab your lady, and break it in...
I told her we should take some action shots to post on the forum.
Talk about gettin' the stink eye.

Our Zinus mattress arrived today. I told the wife that I sure did hope that we liked it because there was no way to put it back in the box to return it. The box was about 18" X 18" X queen size long. I took it out of the box and it was compressed and rolled up like a jelly roll. Once I cut the plastic it started "inflating". It was up to size in just a minute or two.

It looks good and seems to be well made. We laid down on it and the firmness of it seemed to be just what we wanted. After we sleep on it tonight I'll report back and give our opinion. So far, I think we're going to be happy with it.

Man I am happy to hear this because this thread prompted me to buy the exact same thing. Just waiting for delivery.

Sleep well...I hope...;)

You guys that ordered, please do give us an update in a week or so on how you are sleeping. We need a new mattress.

Buddy here bought one (maybe a Purple?) off Amazon. Something like a 100-day test period. They decided they didn’t want it and initiated a return. Amazon rep said put it back in the box. There’s was a king sized, and the box couldn’t have been more than 3’ in any direction. It took being transferred multiple times until they got a supervisor that understood the predicament. Final result was full refund, and keep the mattress.

When we bought a new king mattress for the wife and I about 6 years ago, we went first to Conn’s s they were new in town and I figured they’d be hungry for a deal. Nope. The salesman was an idiot, spoke to several different customers about piddly crap while we were making a $1,000-$1,5000 decision, and the kicker was offered no warranty/guarantee about liking the mattress. After wasting an hour there, we literally walked out across the parking lot to a Mattress Firm store and were treated like royalty and served by a sales woman that knew her stuff and put up with out nit-picking and indecisiveness for an hour. The kicker was a 30 or 45 day in-home trial. 100% money back if not satisfied.

We ended up with a King Coil Laura Ashley mattress and it’s been pretty good. It was fantastic brand new but it’s started to show some age. Little bit of a “wave” between the two sides of sleepers.

I’m impressed with the one we bought my son (referenced in my previous post above from Amazon). I don’t know how it would do under the weight of n adult, but it feels pretty darn good when I lay on it, especially for under $300.

I bought two of the Zinus mattress off Amazon. They're a great guest room mattress. In a few months of regular use though they will take a set and get progressively more uncomfortable...

Well, last night was good. We wanted a firm mattress and this one was just what we had hoped for. It was only one night but, so far, we're very pleased with it. If it holds up, it will be a bargain.

Our Zinus is 5-6 years old and I still enjoy it as much as when it was new. It has probably settled a little under where we each sleep but not enough to even really notice.

Yea, we're about to return the one we just bought...like a slab of concrete.....
I absolutely agree. We went to return one from Sam's about 4 months ago. They cut th bar code off the box and the tags off the mattress. Gave me the cash and tole me I had to take the mattress with me and dispose of it how I saw fit.

I gave it to another member here, he loves it

If thats what you think.

Something to do with the beerflu crap. I'm glad somebody got use of mine

To revive an oldie, how have your new mattresses faired, @Geezer and @fieldgrade ? My wife and I are starting the hunt for a new one and a bit overwhelmed at the choices out there. I’ve only bought one new mattress in my life and went cheap - mistake. Any feedback is appreciated!

It was for my guest room that my son occupied to finish school during the lockdown. He said it was more firm than he would prefer. I ended up ordering a memory foam mattress topper. In fact, I’ve really improved all my older beds that way in recent years.

Heh! Saw this pop up and was GREATLY amused to note your opening post!

"trying to buy a queen sized mattress/boxspring during the lock down...which will hopefully end soon, the lock down, that is."

Dated April 21, 2020!

Man, that was funny!

ANYWAY...I didn't see this pop up nearly two years ago, but since it's been revived I'll put in my two cents on buying a mattress/boxspring for others:

BUY QUALITY, PERIOD.

I don't remember what ours is, but we bought it with money my in-laws gave us for that purpose when we got married. That was back in January of 1996 and we still have the same set, as firm and comfortable as ever.

I don't remember what it cost when we got it, but I do remember thinking "well, we're not paying for it" at the time. Well, if I had it to do over again and it came out of my pocket, I still wouldn't have cared after all this time. Paying four figures for a quality mattress/boxspring set is truly an wise investment.

Obviously @Just Tripp testified about what going cheap means.
