Y'all, I have been shooting trap with my dad lately as that's his favorite kind of shooting.

He recently moved to the Hampstead/Surf City and is having trouble finding a trap venue down here.

Can anyone in the area suggest a decent trap field or range within half an hour drive?

Thanks!
Ruffy

My gun club has great shotgun facilities (skeet, trap, and 5 stand) but we are private. We do hold monthly matches open to the public if he is interested in shooting in those. Check out Buccaneergunclub.org for details, located in Leland. Not a bad drive from the Hampstead area especially with the new bypass in place. I don't shoot shotgun so I'm not real familiar with all they do out there but if you get in touch with the match director I'm sure he can fill you in. Let me know if you need a number.

I feel your pain, Ruffinit. In a different time and place, there were four ranges that threw Blue Rocks for us trap shooters and all within ten miles from the homestead. Since moving to North Carolina, it's about a fifty mile drive to Sir Walter's...the closest trap range to me.
I sure miss it! Wasn't ever any good at it, but I sure miss it!

In your area, I second Buccaneer Gun Club for all of your shot gunning needs: trap, skeet and 5-stand. BGC is a private club, but all of the events are open to the public. Check out their website for additional details.

If you area in the Raleigh area, only Durham Co Wildlife Club has trap fields. There are a few sporting clays courses around (Deep River, Drake's Landing, Kidd's Place Shooting Sport) if that interests you and willing to make the drive.
