Heard from an old timer gunsmith that tube clamp sling mounts are a major problem for lever actions, particularly with rimfires. He said over time the weight/bearing of the sling in use causes the tube to be manipulated and cause failure to feed issues...is there any truth to this or is it FUDD nonsense? He said he has had to repair countless firearms for this reason and recommends the forend to be drilled with a nut installed flush in the barrel channel for the sling stud mount to be attached.

Tube clamp or barrel band, either one works for a Marlin or other stoutly made levergun. Some folks report problems with tube clamp sling mounts, but most have no problems. I would never drill the forend for a mount.

@IrishCannon
Solid or split tube?
Split would be a no go. solid should be fine provided it was not clamped down by a gorilla.

I don't think I have ever seen a split tube on a levergun... mebbe a Daisy?

I have a 1917 Marlin 1893 30-30 with one.
It was causing issues and I took it off and found a dow rod to insert and reworked it a little.
I found a solid tube from a later gun that I need to fit to it, just never have.

This would be going on a Henry H001 Rimfire..
When the guy mentioned it, he was talking about tube fed bolt action rimfires but it still had me concerned.

I bought the GroveTec kit that Henry sells, and even the expensive Brass Stacker no-drill slings come with tube clamps.
