Turning Virginia into Afghanistan: Democrats THREATEN to use National Guard on Virginia Sanctuaries

Had to look it up... Oh, the irony.

Sic semper tyrannis is a Latin phrase meaning "thus always to tyrants".

Interesting factoid:
John Wilkes Booth wrote in his diary that he shouted "Sic semper tyrannis" after shooting U.S. President Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865

You'll probably see it sprayed on burned out MRAPs etc because they hit IEDs in VA if this keeps on too much longer.

That's a somewhat distorted picture and there are several models. Here's another one along with an excerpt from an article...
MRAP.jpg

For starters, these MRAP vehicles can’t drive themselves. They require a crew of at a minimum, one person. They also do not yet have a transporter beam that I know of so the crew will need to use doors to enter and exit the vehicle. I don’t see a local police force for the average town with one of these using them to round up people or offensively attack large numbers unless the citizens are foolish, disarmed or incarcerated first. The people using this vehicle are safe from small arms fire so there is no point shooting at it. They are also presumably safe from mines so no point in trying to blow it up.

What they can’t do is fly. They also have a very large turning radius so it would be very easy to block them into a box and close the box so they couldn’t escape. What kind of box? This could be a roadblock hastily set up with vehicles too heavy for the MRAP to move. It could be that a tree is dropped behind them blocking their escape or some additional vehicles. You could also dig a pit if you had enough time. The MRAP can’t climb out of a box so if you make one long enough and about 4 feet deep, the MRAP and everyone in it would be stuck. You don’t even have to make the hole too big to get one of these heavy vehicles stuck.

Strip away the intimidation factor and they're just a big heavy vehicle designed to move people around. They also have several weaknesses, many of which apply to any vehicle.
How to disable an MRAP for less than $50.
Stopping movement by obscuring vision:

While the outside of an MRAP varies greatly from a normal car, sitting in the driver’s seat is fairly similar to driving a U-Haul truck. The driver looks over the steering wheel and through the windshield to the street. If the driver cannot see past the windshield, the vehicle ceases to move because it either crashes or the driver stops it.

Any sticky liquid substance that can be pumped into water balloons or packed into a glass container will stop an MRAP. If the balloon bursts or the glass container breaks open on the windows, the driver is forced to stop and the occupants are forced to exit the vehicle to clean off the windshield. The effect is enhanced if three different types of substances are mixed: a sticky liquid to obscure vision and defeat the windshield wipers and sprayers, a thin liquid to increase the splatter from the impact, and a granular substance to further obscure vision.

Examples:

Combination one: Syrup, milk, and sugar (Warning: Container not to be left around diabetics, small children, or people who bake)
Combination two: Heavy weight motor oil, lighter fluid, and aluminum or magnesium flakes (Warning: Extremely flammable)
Combination three: Elmer’s glue and glitter (Warning: Possibly too fabulous for many people)

The article also talks about traps like @georgel mentioned.
Here's another one that even points out that the reason police departments get these things is "not for drug raids and crack heads, they are designed for the person with the Gadsden Flag, the NRA sticker, those silly notions about liberty, freedom, the Constitution and thinking for themselves."

It also mentions using a fork lift or other heavy equipment to cause "turtle" one and knock it over on it's side. The high center of gravity and V-Shaped hull may be effective against an IED, but it creates other weaknesses that can be exploited.

How ironic that the Virgina state seal could become the battle cry of the new republic.

Just for the sake of discussion and not to hijack the thread, but that is a "predecessor" alright...funny they didn't mention where that particular vehicle might have come from originally and what it might have done in another time and place...its not a American "MRAP"...betting that is a SA Casspir, probably one we bought early on when we were designing and testing our own...SA was way ahead, by nearly 40 years, in developing mine resistant vehicles...everything we have built goes back to their designs...just like you can trace the M4 and every other M4'orgery back to the XM177.

8 million citizens with at least 1 million guns vs. 7500 NG, of which 90% will likely ignore the unlawful orders.
That won't go well.

They decided not to grab your guns just yet. THEY WANT A SOLID COUNT FIRST. Hope Virginians stand their ground and say BS to registration. I will never register my firearms. That line is drawn.

"The grandfather clause will apply only if the owners register their weapons with the government “before the end of a designated grace period,” Yarmosky said."

Mine resistant, yes.
But easily immobilized with a mine.
Molotov resistant too?
Water in the intake resistant?
Water in the fuel tank resistant?

More survivable if you have a backup rapid reaction force and close air support in a desert. Yes, it does that pretty well.

On the other hand, how many country boys in Iraq have tons of fertilizer, tanks of diesel and a backhoe?

How big of a cable between 2 big trees would it take to stop it or rip off a wheel?

Moving slowly through cover like brushy hills, probably not hard to immobilize. Moving fast, at what speed will a ditch break the front end? Or just prevent forward progress. Cause you are a mile up this road with only dead ends ahead and the backhoe dug across the way you came 5 min after you went by ...

I wouldn’t bet against the rednecks if they are pissed off.

just reminded me of this time proven tactic...

I personally thought a discussion on barbed caltrops attached to long lengths of steel cable or other cable entanglements were interesting. Or the steering linkage and hydraulics just behind the left front (driver side) wheel were vulnerable. ;)

Yes, they're fancy troop carriers. I think many models don't even have gun ports.

Oh My Lord...if That ain't a snappy lookin group!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meh. I think it is a bluff in practice a heart felt wish in principle. Dude would like nothing more than the guard doing just that. But he also said the governor could "nationalize" the guard. So i doubt he even knows how that really works.

I was talking about the National Guard. Most of the units still have HMMVs. Most of the Sherrifs offices that have them, only have one, they are monsters to repair and are broken continuously for used! There are ways to get rid of them. I learned the hard way from the Afghans.
