This took place in the early 60s. The 6th Marines supply shed was being broken in fairly regularly. The case was given to a new OJT CID investigator since it was considered less than not important. Guy was determined to do good and make an impression. He staked out the shed as often as he could even on his off duty time. Finally caught a guy in the act. Turned out he was a dependent (civilian) of a very senior officer on the base. CID guy wanted to take him right down to the US Magistrate in Jacksonville. NO! He was turned over to dear old dad who came over to the CID guy, shook his hand and said, "Thank you for not making an issue of this." Not too much later the CID guy got out of the service.
Not a month earlier three Marines who had been apprehended breaking into a building were each given six, six and a kick (six months reduction in pay, six months confinement in the brig and a bad conduct discharge).
