Just picked up a Serb AK and am looking for inexpensive magazines that work in the M70. I see U.S. Palm plastic magazines selling for 9.95. Do these function ok? I don't intend to go to war with the gun, just have some range fun. The same site has Bulgarian metal magazines for 12.95, but using them causes a 922R violation since the magazine is three of the magic parts. How about Magpul brand AK gen 2 magazines?

922r is for importers.

The metal lined Bulgarian polymer mags are good.

^^^^^^what he said

The metal lined Magpul mags are good too.

But you can get Korean steel magazines from CDNN for very reasonable prices

Any experience with U.S. Palm?
I have 3 US palm mags. Not a fan , they are pretty thick and barely fit in mag wells of our AKs. I didn’t file or fit them, and maybe that midget help.
I use the Bulgarian ones mentioned above and Magpul - both have worked well

US Palm are bulky and are also 100% plastic.

XTech makes the same thing but with metal where it counts.

The two I have that came with a WASR and an RH10 were solid plastic. There must be two different kinds.

These are straight plastic.

Mrgunsandgear, who never gives anything a bad review, shattered one doing a drop test.

If you are not a mag snob CDNN has a sale right now and Global Ordnance always has steel AK mags for cheap. I have some of those (AK and AR) and they work fine.

I bought a Magpul plastic and a U.S. Palm plastic 30 rd magazines to test. The Palm was $4 less. They both lock in without a problem. I'll find out how they feed soon. I' ll undoubtedly get a couple all metal magazines to just have but since the rifle for me is a range toy, if the plastic works, it's good enough. Weight is less with the plastic.

Everyone needs some metal mags.

Yeah, US palm and Magpul both have versions with steel reinforcement and versions without. I have a plastic from each brand.

US Palm adverts usually mention their all plastic one as the best "range" mag available.

I know next to nothing about the AK platform much less the mags compared to many here.

But I have been happy with the all plastics and also quite pleased with a couple PSA (metal reinforced) mags I got. No issues with them. Even though my lone AK hasn't cleared 1k rounds yet.

Honestly I even have some really cheap Thermold all plastic mags and even they work just fine. I don't think AKs are all that picky. But Global Ordance sometimes has AK metal mags for 5-6$ so watch out for that.

Yeah they're great. :) I had a handful of them for my AK and never had any issues with them, aside from that they're a bit thick so they fill your hand up a little more, and they require a bit more focus to load into the magwell. But the plus side of that is once they're seated, they don't wobble at all. And the transparent polymer lets you see how many rounds you've got left at a glance - a great boon for a platform that doesn't naturally have LRBHO. I prefer Magpul Pmags personally, but after those and combloc steel, the US Palm mags are my third-favorite.

Used us palm, x tech and magpul polymer mags including the versions with steel locking tabs and reinforcements. Honestly I like all of them but the xtech feel the nicest. As noted the us palms are a little tighter fit but nothing that prevented their use on my rifles. I would buy a few of each, see what you like, then stack em deep.

I just realized that you needed a US made mag - and we were waffling on about all sorts of imports!

Why? He can use whatever mags he wants.
Sticking a foreign made magazine into a 922r qualifying long gun, where the U.S. made magazine counts for 3 of the needed parts may be considered assembling a firearm. Sounds weird but with the ATF involved I'm not giving anyone a reason to look askance at me and my AK.

Palm mags seem to be fine.
