UFC talk

Derrick Lewis just cracks me up.

This is kinda interesting discussion on Lewis saving people during flood in Houston and one was a white dude with a confederate flag. Off topic but interesting as its with Brit Michael Bisping.

If you missed Ngannou v Lewis, imagine two guys shadowboxing for 3 rounds. This non-fight was actually the beginning of a campaign to stop black-on-black violence.

DC! @NKD said it best - he's the fattest baddest man on the planet. He's never going back light heavyweight. And if he can beat Stipe, he can probably beat Lesner and whoever else in heavyweight can bring a big money fight, and then retire.

Been a while since I caught up on UFC. So Mighty Mouse has finally been defeated. And TJ KO'ed Garbrandt . . . again. Looks like we might get a Cejudo vs TJ fight at 135.

And it's finally happening - McGregor vs. Khabib.

Predictions? I think Conor puts Khabib to sleep. He's just too fast between his great footwork and that lightning bolt left hand. This assumes his cardio is up to snuff after such a long layoff. Khabib's pressure is relentless, but has he fought a guy who can punish him on the way in like Conor can? And as we saw in Khabib's last fight, his takedowns are not inescapable.

I'd post the UFC promo video, but there's some NSFW language in it.

Gonna be interesting. I wanna say Khabib is going to take him down and make for a painful night. His top game is solid.

But I am gunshy of betting against Conor as I have been wrong too many times. I would love so much to see Conor get him with that left hook and put him out!!

MM Vs. Cajudo was a great great fight, but I thought MM edged him out. But it was a good win for Cejudo and ended the stalemate in that division. Don't see Henry taking out TJ though. Will be interesting to see how MM bounces back.

Some other very interesting fights coming up:

Till Vs. Woodley
Shevchenko vs Montano
Adrade vs. Other polish chick Koweisghkisomething
Yair Rodriguez vs Zabit (this Zabit guy is incredible, must must must watch)

Magny vs Cowboy Oliveira coming up too.

And, on the Connor card, there is
Ferguson vs. Pettis
and return of Sean O'malley

Agree on TJ - Cejudo. TJ is fighting at a very high level.

Is Montano for real or just more shark bait for Shevchenko in this new division?

Zabit's skillset is amazing, but from that fight in Boston, he's not packing much power.

Ferguson vs Pettis I think is insurance for the main event. If either Khabib or Conor has to pull out, Dana will have the option to substitute Ferguson so they don't end up with a fiasco like they did with Khabib vs Al Iaquinta - I'm sure Dana has discussed this with Ferguson. It's also a fairly quick turnaround for Pettis who fought very recently.

Yeah, Sean O'Malley is fun to watch for sure.

Shark bait. Anybody even close to her size is shark bait! She's a killer.

True on Zabits power. But, of 15 wins only 3 decisions, with 6 KO's and 6 subs. Edit: that Bochniak dude ate shots with a smile that would have taken out most humans, lol.

Actually, it's not Bellator. It's being promoted by Golden Boy (Oscars company).

Not sure how exactly that is going to work.

Now that we're less than 2 weeks away, I'm cautiously allowing myself to get hyped for the Conor v Khabib fight. Still a bit nervous that something will happen and one of them will pull out or be DQ'ed for medical reasons. Here's hoping they both make weight and both show up to fight.

The rest of the card is pretty good too. O'Malley in the prelims. Derrick Lewis trying to make amends for his terrible showing vs Ngannou. OSP v Reyes. And Ferguson v Pettis.

Had a chance to watch Khabib v Michael Johnson (it's on Youtube). He is definitely vulnerable standing up. Johnson was hurting him before Khabib got the takedown and did what he does best. If Conor can stuff a couple of takedown attempts, he will be in a great position to make Khabib eat some of those lefts.

Great card!!
Man, it would be so awesome if Conor knocked him out. My brain says Kabib wrestlehumps him to death. But would love to see him catch a flush left hook!

This Pico kid in Bellator at 145 is pretty damn tough.

Higo was pretty much knocked out for a minute of the fight, and the ref should have called it quicker.

Khabib wins if it stays on the ground, McGregor wins if it stays up.

Lidell was a beast in his Prime. Hard hitter, and I’ve never seen anyone that could escape takedowns like him. He could just make standing back up with someone on top of him look effortless. His defense got him in trouble later in his career after his prime. He liked defending with his face.

Ortiz probably thinks he might have a shot now that Lidell is old.

Liddell vs Ortiz, man I feel like I’m in a time warp. I watched the first two live, I was a huge MMA fan before MMA was as popular as it is now. Loved when Randy Colture literally spanked Ortiz. Ortiz was one of the first of the disrespectful trash talkers in UFC. Maybe the Iceman has one more punch left in him. I won’t pay to see this fight, I’ll catch it later or read about it lol.

Ordered the UFC 229 tonight, first PPV I’ve bought to watch at home in a long while. Had to make sure the fight was going to happen before ordering.

The Black Beast, Derik Lewis. That was a crazy comeback vs Volkov. Possibly a Pro USA Athlete. Said something like Trump called him before the fight, told him he had to beat the Russians LOL!
Yeah. The Trump comment was hilarious. That and “my balls got hot”. He’s my hero of the night.

I counted 3 guys assault McGregor. Plus whoever Khabib hit when he jumped out of the ring. All should be prosecuted for assault.

As for the fight, Khabib dominated and McGregor never put him in any real danger. I think Khabib's streak of having never lost a round remains intact.

After watching El Cucuy, who doesn't want to see him take on Khabib. That looks like the fight to make as Ferguson is clearly the #1 contender.

McGregor may never hold the lightweight belt again. Will be interesting to see if he's willing to cut down to fight at featherweight again.

watched some of the fan footage, what a joke of how these guys lose their cool so easily
I really couldnt tell what the heck happened/was happening

as for being prosecuted - they wont. Nothing will happen, just like a lot of far lefties never seem to get in any real trouble when they get violent

McGregor won round 3, that’s it, but not decisively. He stuffed all takedown attempts that round, and landed more shots that round which they stayed on their feet. Just didn’t have the energy to summon his power after those first two rounds.

Round 2 could have been a 10-8 for Khabib with that knockdown.

Round 1 10-9 for Khabib, he rode on top of McGregor that round.

It’s going to take a world class grappler to beat Khabib right now, or at least someone with better cardio that can summon some power when back on their feet. McGregor did study and put on a good show in the second Diaz fight after losing, Khabib is just more of an overwhelming wrestler. Diaz liked to stand and trade blows and block them with his face. Khabib is more technical than Diaz.

I’d have Ferguson fight McGregor if McGregor is going to continue in MMA, then the winner against Khabib. That’ll make Connor at least earn a rematch, and I’m sure Furguson would welcome the chance to fight Conner even if it meant passing on the title shot one more fight and get that big attention, with a chance to beat Conner and challenge Khabib after. Furguson does have crazy cardio.

I'm happy to say I have no idea what any of this about or who any of the people are...

I'm guessing it's somewhat like "professional" wrasslin.

Good points, so maybe Khabib gave up 1 round thus far in his UFC career. Totally agreed on power; when Conor did connect with that left, it didn't have much effect on Khabib.

To me, Conor looked a bit flat-footed even before the first takedown in the 1st round. When he fought Alvarez (same weight division), he looked lighter on his feet and much quicker - he was like a hummingbird, just zipping in and out of range. I expected he would have a large quickness advantage over Khabib, but it didn't seem that way.

Hard to talk and tap at the same time Conner.......I generally like McGregor as a fighter but the Irishman had this ass kicking coming. We all understand he is a great self promoter but a true warrior like Khabib takes the extreme shit talking and vile personal nature of the lead up to the fight personally. Its gone too far now just like the nature of the politics in this country, civil discourse has been replaced by in your face shout downs, ranting and violence. Its really at the feet of Dana White for letting the press conference and weight ins get out of control and not really punishing McGregor for the bus bashing episode really shows with him its all about the money and not about the integrity of the sport and the roots of combat sports in general which teach respect for your opponent and the sport. There is a lot to like about Khabib and he will likely rule the division as long as he chooses. I guess Ferguson is next and that is a great matchup.

Its simply about imposing his will on the other fighter and after the round 2 beatdown, Khabib just stood right in front of McGregor and showed no fear or concern for his striking power. Its so very difficult to get back to your feet when Khabib takes you down and Connor found out the same way 26 others have that you just can not stop it.

The pressure he exerts on his opponents is truly scary, and with his great conditioning he can absorb a big shot like he took form Pettit and recover so quickly and get right back to his business, very difficult for any fighter in his division to deal with.

OK, but Khabib made so much money last night BECAUSE of Conor's trash talking. If MMA turns toward the very respectful sport that Khabib wants (as discussed in the post-fight presser), then the fighters will all earn less.

Khabib is a true grappler who learned the fist game. Those guys become the champions. The UFC makes boxing look like playground fights. Honestly it probably should be banned. Yeah it’s fun to what people try to kill each other but it is the sport of early death. They think football is dangerous? Just enter the cage and experience attempted murder.

Even his preflight ring entrance was lackadaisical. Didn’t even strut and swing those arms like he use to. Conner can have a chance to beat him in a rematch, but has to be faster with that power left. He’ll never out wrestle him, only chance is to catch him while standing. Conner should’ve forgot about kicking also, so slow Khabib was catching them for single leg takedowns.

Going to take a old school wrestler and freakishly strong for size Matt Hughes type fighter to dominate Khabib.
