So I bought a new tundra 2 weeks ago and it’s got the under seat storage in the rear. Just so happens my AR pistol fit in it. Bought some foam from Carolina custom foam. 1” for a solid bottom and 2” for the gun to sink into. My carving skills aren’t that great but here’s where I’m at now. Going to add a place for some spare mags too.

I like it. I’d like to have something like that. My rifle is velcroed to the bottom of the seat. It works ok. But I’d rather have it locked. This Silverado has a storage compartment under fold up center console that locks. I keep my truck pistol and my EDC pistol in there when i can’t carry it like when I’m at work. Looks like you have enough room for a spare handgun and a few mags for both if you turn the rifle mags up on their edge to be stored in the foam

Yeah there’s room. Just need to figure out how to keep the foam from coming out when I pick the gun up. Maybe some glue between the sheets?

You may want to cut more away around the grip so you can get your hand around it.

I did. Just in front of the magwell there’s a place that I cut out to be able to grab it. Might try trimming more so it’s not as tight.

Man, that is nice! Wish my vehicle had under seat storage.

Yep. Little spray glue will fix that

That looks really nice, I like it a lot. I have a Du-Ha storage box under the back seat in my truck. It can hold a lot of stuff and keep it pretty well organized, but I like how yours is somewhat hidden.

My Tacoma has the same storage, albeit not as large and have been thinking about doing the same thing,
If it has the same quarter turn knobs to open, there's a replacement that is locking, however it escapes me who makes it.

I have a Tundra. Had plans for years to do something like that and never got around to it. I am a professional crastinator...
Nice setup for sure!

Is this foam stiff enough to use without anything to frame it in with? I’d think so, but wanted to ask. I have a spot that will hold my suppressed 10.5” SBR (stock collapsed) with a 30rd mag inserted. It doesn’t really slide around anywhere.

Would consider a foam setup just to let it rest on something. Also really considering a swap to my AR57, and moving that upper to a braced lower instead of SBR. It will be shorter OAL and won’t have the 30rd mag. The mag is part of what keeps the 5.56 from moving around.

It’s the Appalachian foam and is pretty sturdy but still soft. If it didn’t have the box it is sitting in it’s pretty floppy because of all the removed material. I’d think it’d need to be in a container to work or make sure there’s enough foam around the edges to keep it rigid.

Thanks. I’ll grab a pic when we get back home tomorrow and see if that changes anything. It would use the back of the cab and I maybe the side of the cab as two sides, so it would have a little support. Just can’t remember exactly how the seat supports are configured right now. There’s also a fold out floor that provides a little lip when it’s folded up.

Nice work. I have the lockerdown console vault. Excellent quaility, fit and finish. I may purchase the long gun locking vault for under the rear seat of my Tundra Crewmax.

That is really nice. I wouldn’t mind getting one for my truck some day.

Side note. Did you notice in the description where it said you have to use new bolts with spacers that raise up your seat 3”? That’s a decent amount of head room to lose.

Another side note....I just looked up their company and realized they are located here in San Antonio and I was actually right by their shop the other day and didn’t realize what it was.

Yes, I saw the 3” loss of head space, good point and something to consider for sure. As mentioned the cost vs use given is a pause for me right now. I use Harbor Freight long gun cases most of the time for range trips.

I like your set up! I threw this together a while back to hold my 10.5 inch 5.56 pistol. Will probably swap it with my new 8.5 inch .300. I drive a Mazda CX-9 and the trunk area has a fold up compartment as seen.

Here’s about the best I could get...anything about this area indicate the foam would/wouldn’t work?

Does CCF have a CFF discount? :D

Looks good...I spoke to Gregg Drake about makin one for my tacoma

Ordered some today. I opted to go a little thinner, 1/2” bottom and 1” top. We’ll see how it goes.

Does that work with this type of foam? I know I have a gun and glue sticks at home...and I’d rather use that than buy a can of spray glue for this one project.

Next issue will be getting the foam to stay in place. We’ll see how that goes. There are a couple brackets I’ll need to cut around, so maybe they retain it well enough. It’s one reason I went with thinner foam...so I’m not have to dig my fingers to far into it to grab the firearm.

I’m really doing the foam just to provide a little cushion and keep it from moving around. I may decide to be real generous when trimming around the outline so that the firearm doesn’t really snag the sides of the foam as I lift it out.

I'm pretty sure it does, silicone would work as well. Get the Ultra black/blue/grey at a parts store, it's not acidic like the standard caulk type.

I drive a 2008 F150 4 door and this is how I store my AR15 under the back seat. It will keep the smash and grabbers from getting it and with the directional combination lock I can access it without having to see the lock. I purchased the cable and lock on Amazon. The other end of it is girthed on the baby seat ring at the back of the seat. I keep a small go bag with mags and medical in the pocket on the back of the drivers seat. A pistol or shotgun could be stored in the same fashion. I never leave any weapons in my vehicle overnight.

Does this work?
How'd you set it up?
Pics?

If your F150 doesn't have the sub-woofer then there's a great place behind the drivers side rear seat. There is a pin you need to unlatch to initially get there. Once you have the seat pulled down you can put a cable on the pin to be able lift it up without reaching way down. You can store stuff you don't want people to see.

You can also built an under seat storage (from 2x4, 2x6, bolts to the seat mounts) that holds any rifle you want to transport. Paint it black and no one can see it from the outside. All straight cuts, no curves.

Ah, not me, someone else...

Foam got here a couple days ago. Cut it to fit the area yesterday while I was bored at work. Just used scissors...worked fine. Got to working on the rest of it this morning. Used 1/2” as the base, and 1” as the storage. My underseat isn’t as tall as I thought, so I’m glad I went thinner. Didn’t remember to take many pics as I went, but the end result should be enough.

Here was the first attempt. Plan was to overlap two mags using this design.

FF387B73-78CE-4E19-BB42-0E79C6CDE494.jpeg B20B0A99-4634-4FB3-BF3D-5D2A14821380.jpeg 7522AD9C-A203-477F-A5EB-E7A9C1EEDE72.jpeg

But the seat wouldn’t close down with two mags. There’s a lip that end of the foam is sitting on. (I ended up only cutting about a 1” strip the length of the 12x36 piece for it to fit, so I glued it underneath the base piece as a support going up to the lip). So I went back to Plan B.

Found a spot in the back of the foam to add another mag standing on its side, since it’s actually behind the seat when it’s closed. Cut the end off the piece I cut out for mags and glued it back in place. Ended up with this:

It’s always easier when you have good help.

Another pic in sun with loaded mags.

Everything fits and the seat lowers.

I used a hot glue gun to attach the two pieces. Seemed to work fine. I did end up using a razor blade to cut out the additional mag spot since I’d already glue the halves together.

Overall, I’m satisfied. That’s 151 rounds of 40gr V-Max, suppressed. I did find I had a 20rd pmag here and it’s about the length of the grip, so it worked well. The ammo is fed from the top, and the brass shoots out the factory magwell. I removed the base, spring and follower, and had to cut the top portion of the mag that extends past the top of the lower receiver. The 20 rounder just gives me another grip point and provides a better chute for the brass to fly out of.

Follow-up project was really fast. Decided the 10.5” 5.56 that had been in the truck needed to go in my wife’s Pilot. She has a storage area in the very back, which just has jumper cables and the three headrests for the rear seat if you ever need them. Only had to move one of them headrest to under a seat. The other two and cables still fit.

Found I had some foam laying around from packing material, and it was just enough...didn’t even have to cut the width or length of the big pieces. Laid one piece down. But a small section off another piece to sit under the silencer to prevent rattling. Then had a slightly longer piece than the bottom section to use as a cover, and just had to semi-shape the end of it. Barely won’t fit with a mag installed, but can easily have 3 full ones in the spot...and tossed in a basic set of ears.

Not too bad for $0. I’m calling that stored, not concealed.
