Under / Top Quilts

I've used movers blankets to great effect but they can be a bit bulky.

I use Snugpak quilts when I hammock camp but I haven’t been in 20-30 deg weather. @BurnedOutGeek probably has a wealth of info on this topic. MacIntyre or something like that makes them too
Snugpak Jungle Blanket works great! Light, warm, small.

How far are you walking away from the car/truck?
Wool blanket folded so you have some under and some over, number of folds depend on the temp and any other layers you have available.

Have not done spring/fall in a while. Last summer I used a poncho liner as an under quilt and a fleece sleeping bag over me. I didn't sleep in the bag, just drooped it over the hammock. I liked that setup a lot better than a sleeping bag.

I have done lower 20's before. For that I had a foil under pad, gore tex bivy, and 20 degree sleeping bag. Keep in mind I was not very tolerant of the cold then. I could probably get away without the bivy now. Or under quilt, foil pad, and sleeping bag would probably work great.

I’ve considered wool for when it’s a camp beside of the truck

My current setup consist of a hammock, tarp and matched underquilt (all from Warbonnet) with a mummy sleeping bag. Both the underquilt and bag are rated for 20F. Last November i used this setup in temps down to 22F and was very warm except for my nose. I typically use the sleeping bag inverted like a blanket. But I plan to purchase a down topquilt because I find the inverted sleeping bag can be a little difficult to use at times.

hammock: 3 on the bottom, 1 on the top.
whatever 3 you choose.

I think the real money is in the under quilt to spend for the best sleeping, considering frozen butt is an issue with hammock.

If it's really cold find the foil covered bubble wrap. Use it in place of a sleeping pad. If it's cold enough to use this I am inside my sleeping bag so I'm not laying directly on it. I use the insulating wrap that comes in tractor trailers. But you can find it as a windshield protector too. Or this.

I have a thermarest pad I can use.

Just looking for an under quilt, I have a mummy style, but I’m not that sold on it.
