For a little history my daughter works at Modern Aviation in Wilmington. They have the military contract for fueling and stuff so lots of Navy and Marine pilots come in for hot fuel and cold. Most of the pilots she said are very friendly and she has gotten to see a lot of planes and helicopters. Right before Christmas one of them asked her if she wanted a shoulder patch and since she knows being a veteran I love and respect anything military so she accepted. She gave me two patches at Christmas and said if I was interested she would get more. After talking with the pilots most of them carry extras to give out and a couple have pulled them off their shoulder and gave them to her to give to her dad.

All that to ask a question. I had a friend that was killed in Afganistan in 2014. MSGT Aaron Torrian who was a Marine Raider. As chance would have it one of the patches she got was the original raider patch that many of the raiders wear even though unauthorized. This got me to thinking I would love to get a patch for Marine Raider 2nd battalion which I can find pictures of but not a place to buy it. I have gotten a velcro board for all patches I'm collecting and would love to get this one for obvious reasons. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be greatful. I'm looking for the colored one but subdued would be better than nothing.

Hopefully those links work for you.

A couple of years ago, I decided to dig out my discharge certificate and put together a shadow box.

I can't remember where I found them, but there was a website I was able to get everything, patches, badges, etc. Everything except for one unit badge that I was able to get on fleabay.

I do need to get a 33rd ID patch though for my dad's stuff. I'll have to ask my brother to check the paperwork and see what unit he was in in Austria. 33rd ID was for his Pacific tour.

Sometimes I wish my dad would've talked about his time in.

It was only in his last few years that he even acknowledged being in the Pacific. I can't even imagine what he saw and experienced fighting the Japanese out of the Philippines. We know he was in Hiroshima after we nuked it. Never would talk about it.

No, not "I love me". It's a visual recognition of what you did.
I get you, but I still feel really self conscious about the very few veteran type things I do display. I don’t know why. I’ll talk about it to anyone who cares to listen, but not so much as a bumper sticker, not even veteran tags. Only reason there’s a small pic of me somewhere around here in Greens is because the wife insisted we have a picture taken at a ball.

Put together the info and collect the pieces.
Put it all in a labeled box.
One of you younger kin is going to ask you one day and you can get the box and show them.

My dad died when I was 8, but I do have some letters of his from VN. He was in the Marines 1954-1975. I would have loved to have heard his stories...according to the family, he was a hoot telling stories. My mom's cousin (I suppose that makes him mine, too) was a 3-war Marine, WW2, Korea, VN. He loved to talk about his time; I only wish that as a teen I had the wherewithal to record his stories. My uncle was in the 101st Abn in WW2, he didn't talk about it at all until about his last 2, 3 years, then he talked a lot, but would also hold back.

I have reached out to a couple of my contacts at Lejeune. I know a handful of Marine Raiders, but many corpsmen, so hopefully I hear something soon.

I don't have any of their patches or else I would give you one. The only swag I have is this ball cap that a lot of the corpsmen wear:
