Today did not provide any answers. Any temperature above 99.5 requires a recheck an hour later. His temp stayed above this threshold until 3:30am. At that time, it finally dropped to 99.3. Once it got below the threshold, they did not have to recheck for 4 hours. It was close to 9am before they checked it again. By this time, it had jumped back up to 102.8.
He went for a CT scan of his head since the only symptom he is having is a headache. We’re still waiting for the results of that. His hemoglobin was still low today, so he needed another unit of blood. They gave him Tylenol again to try to bring the fever down enough to run the blood transfusion. It finally dropped to 98.7 and they started the blood. 15 minutes later his temp was back up to 100.4 and they had to stop it. Even with more Tylenol, his temp never got below 100. They were unable to finish running the blood transfusion because they couldn’t get the fever down low enough.
He has lost his appetite and struggled to even stay awake today. He is receiving an antibiotic every 8 hours, but the cause of infection is still unknown at this point. His most recent temp was 101.3 (about 45 minutes after Tylenol). Hopefully it will come down enough so they won’t have to wake him every hour to check it. Please continue to pray that the fever and headache subside, and that they make better progress tomorrow determining the cause.
