I apologize for the delay in posting. We typically host the family 4th of July get together and Jerek wanted to still do that. Needless to say, we were busy last week cooking, preparing, and enjoying some time with family. All he has wanted this entire time was to do something “normal” so that was one thing we could actually do that was normal. He got his last chemo treatment of course 2 last Monday and his counts were coming up. The doctor anticipated his counts would be normal within a couple of days and even cancelled his labs only appointment that was scheduled for last Thursday. Since he felt pretty well and his counts were expected to be up, he was ok having family over for the 4th of July. It was roughly 20 people, which is the most he has been around since he has been sick. Even though he tires easily now, he was able to enjoy the day with his family.

Since his counts were already recovering, the doctor planned to keep trucking along on his treatment plan and start course 3 this week. He went in yesterday for labs and 3 chemo drugs. His platelets were good, hemoglobin was good enough, but his white count had dropped. His white count was back down to 0.7 and his neutrophils were 100. The doctor didn’t seem to be concerned and told us this is something that can happen and it was nothing to worry about. Unfortunately he was not able to get chemo yesterday. His neutrophils have to be over 750 in order to receive treatment. His hemoglobin was not low enough to need blood, but the doctor offered to give him a unit just as a boost up. He decided to go ahead and get it since he wouldn’t be going back to the clinic for a week. He is now off for a week in order to give his counts time to recover. He is scheduled to go back on Monday for labs only. As long as his counts are good on Monday, they will schedule his next treatment appointments.

Thanks again for the update, and glad that you could have a near normal 4th.

As I think about this disease and it’s treatment I imagine the invisible nature of it being a huge burden. You start feeling a little sick, you start treatment and everything gets worse than you ever imagined, then even as you get to the end of treatment you have neither the ability to see nor the ability to control those factors that control your treatment. It’s got to be a very difficult mental challenge, you are lucky to have your faith to support you.

Wishing your family all the best, and I’m sure that it’s safe to say that we’re all keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for the update .Glad Jerek got to have some "normal" activity. I'm sure spending time with his family is a big boost to his moral. Continuing to keep you in my prayers.

James

I remember Jerek telling me how much he enjoyed and looked forward to those get-togethers. I'm thankful he didn't have to miss it this year. Please give him a big high-five from all of us. :)

Glad you all had a good 4th of July!

Thanks for the news.

Thanks for the update. You're all in the prayer loop still... sending the best to all of you in the family.
