US Marshall's can't account for 2.4 million rounds of ammo

The article says that those rounds were not tracked, anyone know if this is government speak for missing? When they describe physical controls as strong it makes me thing that they just found a bunch of ammo in the inventory rooms that was not logged into the inventory tracking system.

How many pallets does 2.4 million rounds equate to? I am not excusing loosing the ammo but wouldn't be suprised if some dim wit in logistics sent it to the wrong warehouse or coded something wrong when entering the ammo into inventory.

While it is a minimalistic view just the basic cost of just the ammo is likely over $1million ... just ammo. What other stuff and at what cost has been “misplaced”?

Well isn't the Federal 'budget' about $1Trillion? So based on my precise calculations of what the citizens receive and that $1T budget I come up with about $750Million being "misplaced". :(

They have around 3500 employees. Lets say that 3000 of those employees carry weapons. 2.4 million rounds divided by 3,000 is only 800 rounds per employee. It is a little unrealistic that they all train that much but I would wonder how much their allotment for training on personal time. It should still be signed for but I guess a lot is not.

Correct, all agencies and departments are getting AR's and all the stuff they really don't need.
Even the states are armed like the US military.
Recall a car magazine was having a photo shoot at one of the larger California shops that customize,
CA EPA shows up in swat gear, AR's in force, kick out the magazine staff and tell shop owner to turn off his security cameras.
All of this just to check the shop is in compliance with clean air and hazmat rules for autobody shops.

If my memory is correct the Dept of Education has a SWAT team too. How's that for useless? Wonder where they have been whenever there is a school shooting somewhere?

Well, unlike most of those alphabet soup agencies mentioned here, the US Marshalls SHOULD be authorized to use whatever means reasonably necessary to enforce the federal laws. Regulations aren't laws.

Marshals are supposed to be the catch all LEO agency for all those other alphabets........so cut all that fat at the Dept of Ed, EPA, USDA (except for Forest rangers) law enforcement initiatives, get the US Marshals logistics squared away, and it will be much better for every taxpaying citizen.

If my count is right, 74 agencies employ armed officers with arrest authority.

Some of them...heres looking at you, Dept of Ed and FDA...are surprising.

misplaced all in marshal's range bags and their buddies range bags. I took my CC class with a US marshall and he was giving away Winchester Ranger 9mm like it was free candy.
You know, now that you say that, I had a similar experience with a gov't official. I can't recall that he was a marshall though

Take it. You paid for it.

As to the "missing" ammo, it's probably where it's supposed to be, out of the public view. Maybe it will show up in Mexico.

Some of the worst “employee theft” items are office supplies ... yeah I know we (me included) don’t really think of it as theft but how many have pens from work at home or “borrow” a pad of Post It’s? Could very well be Marshals think a box or two of ammo is nothing ... but when they all do it it costs a crap lot ad to the tax payers!

They may have it in policy to give practice ammo to the agents anyway. I worked for a state agency a while back that gave officers 50 rounds a month to practice with.
