A friend of mine has already completed this, but I wanted to post it here for posterity. This project started out as a police turn-in that I purchased 1) because the price was right, and 2) because one can never have enough HKs.

After months of research, I finally acquired a barrel. Word was that HK factory barrels are extremely hard, and it took the right person to be able to ream one out. Then I learned that EFK made the Fire Dragon in a factory .40 profile, and it was reamable. Lo and behold, it's no longer available. I scoured the HK Pro forums and stumbled across a fella that was making a small batch in various lengths/styles, so I ordered one from him. I receieved it this past week and have installed it. I have finally decided to do a separate guide rod assembly as opposed to just swapping recoil springs. You know, just in case I ever wanted to swap back to .40. I will likely be ordering those parts in the next couple weeks, along with an HK45 mag or 2 and complimentary HK45C floor plates. That, in theory according to my friend's work and research, shoukd be all that is needed to finish. We are both going to send our slides to TMT in Morganton to have them remarked as USP 10mm, then cerakoted back to black. I've been itching for another 10mm for a while, and this just may scratch it. For the record, I've seen guys turn down $1k offers for completed conversions, so there are people out there that would like it. If anybody here wants contact info for the barrel maker, just send me a PM or comment here.

Just an update for interested parties. The HK45 mag came yesterday, so I took it to the range. The only ammo I could get locally was S&B 180gr and PMC 200gr. I could get 2-3 shots max, then I'd get a FTF with each ammo. Also, the slide wasn't locking back on the last round. When it would jam, the round would be almost vertical with the bullet hitting the underneath side of the barrel hood. There seems to be plenty of retention in the mag, but not too much. I am thinking the 18# recoil spring may be too much for off-the-shelf ammo. I have changed it to the 16# spring and will try again one day next week.

I never owned a 10 after I got back my deposit on the Bren Ten....til this year. I now have a Colt in 10 mm and a converted G21. I have taken to them so much I have the G21 by my bed loaded with Underwood ammo. I wanted one when I shot the Bren 10 demo gun. Paid my money and after a while it was returned. I also like it's shorter little brother.

To update: I swapped to a 16# spring. While overall performance was better, I still had several FTFs. I'm gonna try to tweak the feed lips a bit more and maybe swap back to the 40 guide rod assembly.

So is that a barrel from Michael Otte (Michaels Machines)?
I've got one of his barrels in my MP5/10mm, it came highly recommended.
