Once again Leupold fails me. I was pleased at first with the price range (somewhat less money than the MK5 with a decent mag range 1-4.5, 2.5-10, 4.5-18, 8-32)

Their only illuminated reticle offering in the higher magnification (PR1) has such closely sized increment stadia lines to their full mil/moa hash marks, unless you’re dialed in magnification wise it’s hard to distinguish them on the fly. No illuminated PR2. And the TMR reticle that IS illuminated that’s easier to discern the hash marks is only available in the 2.5-10, not the 4.5-18 or 8-32

Back to looking at an Eotech Vudu 3-18 or a Steiner T6Xi 3-18, or at the most expensive end of my range another Mk5 3.6-18 just this time with a busy as heck Tremor 3.

I keep hearing really good things about the Steiner T6Xi 3-18. Of all those, it's sounding like the best choice. A friend and I were just discussing it versus the Eotech Vudu 3-18. Both are good. I think the Steiner has the edge though.

I wonder what's going on here, this is almost exactly what the Mark5 HD offers at a noticeably lower cost, at glance they are almost identical.

OK, same glass as the Mark5HD !!!
Not as many reticles offered as the Mark5HD, but plenty offered.
The minimum and maximum magnification isn't quite as good as the Mark5HD, but not much difference.
The amount of Windage and Elevation isn't quite as good as the Mark5HD, but not much difference.
Now they have zero stop on windage also.

I will probably have to reach out to Camera Land and try one out soon. I really like the Mark5 HD series, and this is almost the same product at $400 ish or more cheaper. With the Mark5 HD, illumination makes a difference on the price tag and certain reticles really make a difference on the price tag.
