Has anyone chronographed this ammo from a rifle? I have a Henry X .357mag (17.4" barrel) but don't have a chronograph. On the box it's rated 1240 muzzle and 539 ft-lbs but I assume that's from a handgun. Basically wondering if this combo is enough for whitetail (within a reasonable distance of course).

I have but I can't find it in my notes. If memory serves it was in line with some 140-158 gr reloads I was developing at the time for my Marlin, which were all in the mid 1700s to mid 1800s using XTP bullets and H110 or 2400 powders.

I'd say 1700-1750 is a pretty good estimate based on my memory and the notes I do have. I no longer have the Marlin so I can't replicate the test.

Would it be enough? Used within 75ish yards I'd say probably. My only question for which I have no data is how well does that bullet hold together when pushed to carbine speeds. It SHOULD hold together well enough, maybe....lol

DIfferent brands will have different velocities +/- 25 fps. I don't have notes handy but from my 22" H&R I recall mid 1700 fps with several 158 gr bullets and low 2000 fps with 125 gr bullets. I like the 158 gr JSP for deer hunting as they exit even a big body deer.

Anybody local is welcome to test some out of my Rossi 16 " bbl.
