Wanted

Looking to get some chicks (egg Layers). Any suggestions
Tractor supply mid to late Feb. You can find a local hatchery if you want or order them, Shipping is expensive.
You want Pullets, do NOT do a "straight run" Build a coop first.

I suspect with egg prices the way they are, chicks are going to go really fast.

IMHO stay away from chain places like tractor supply and the such. Growing up in Missouri this is the place we used. Usually ordered 250+ at a time.

Most have FREE shipping, this place is free over $25.

Thr gf's dad has ordered from them for 25+ years here in NC.

I've seen meat birds with free shipping, not egg birds. School me if I'm wrong. I don't need 25 birds especially at the same time.

I can't find a local feed store that offers chicks, My only option is a straight run from a local hatchery, Tractor Supply, or an order from Myer/Cackle etc. with high shipping costs.

My last straight run experience was 4 roosters, 2 hens and one of the hens got taken by a hawk.

By the time you pay for feed and such to learn you’re the proud parent of roosters, you’re better off paying the $50 shipping from Meyer. I have 8 chicks of assorted varieties on order with them that should arrive in one week.

Get an incubator and find a friend with amorous birds.

I've got an incubator and a source for fertilized eggs.

I just don't have coop space at the moment.

There's a guy in Winston who sells pullet hens ready to lay but be ready to pay
$18-$30 each but they lay basically as soon as you get them and you know you're getting hens. He does advertise that he'll sell chick's, I think you'll just have to ask but he guarantees hens. Search "happy and healthy chickens" on Greensboro or Winston craigslist.

Check out Carolina town and country in Sanford. They typically have chicks of all sort. I’ve bought many animals from them over the years from goats to birds and everything has been healthy.

We ordered online Hoovers Hatchery through TSC - very good experience. The chicks arrive when they are a few days old - they are shipped next day and you pick them up at the post office .
we have had them for going on 3 years
