Holy crap. I do that every time I unload, except IIRC I don't do it at competitions (it's been awhile). Reason being if the RSO/guy with the shot timer is to my left I would have to turn my back to him to keep the muzzle pointing downrange.

He obviously lost his grip on the slide allowing it to slam back. I always ride it back but I guess it could happen to me too.

I always do the fancy rack-it-into-air and catch it.

That way, if the live round explodes, it's closer to my face.
