I've run into an issue with the a few different types of Magpul magazines, and thought a heads-up was in order.

First issue was the LR308 type 20 and 25 round magazines. If you leave them loaded for any length of time, even with the feed lip cover installed, the top of the magazine will spread open to the point that you'll be able to see the case head of the ammo from the top of the magazine spreading under the springs tension.

Second issue, and I just encountered this one today, but the 40 round 5.56 magazine has the same issue, and I found it out at a local CQB match this morning. Its feed lips were spread apart so far I got multiple failures to feed, and double feeds.

As far as the standard capacity 5.56mm 30 rounders are concerned, never had an issue yet, and I've left some loaded and stored with the feed lip covers on for years.

Again, just a heads up.......

Does this have anything to do with summer heat? Ive left them loaded for months with no issues, but stored inside.

ETA: talking about .308 20 rounders

No issues with heat, just spring tension, and plastic that can't withstand the stress

I have upwards of fifty plus 30 round magazines I've had loaded for years that when it came time to use them fed and functioned as advertised, hell the ten round LR308s dont have the feed lip spreading issue the 20/25 rounders do......

Spring tension, time, and weakness

Interesting. I’ve had some magpuls in 5.56 loaded for over a year and no issues. Maybe it’s caliber specific

I've had 5.56 30 rounders loaded for... 5 years? Maybe 7? No issues.

I have a 40 round Pmag with a plus 3 baseplate that has been loaded for at least 2 years, kept cover on, still looks normal.

I have obviously hallucinated the two issues I tried to be neighborly in passing along..........

I am done......
No one is questioning that you had issues, just adding more data points based on our own real world experience. Your post alone might suggest a larger problem, so it's good to add more data for others to understand either 1: this is maybe only related to the types of PMags you listed or 2: maybe a unique problem.

I never actually used my 40 round yet, I have a bunch of the 30 pmags mostly gen 2. I am not buying anymore, I prefer the Lancer AWM translucent ones and am standardizing on these.

I had a similar issue with a brand new D60, magpul sent me a new one that has been flawless. I will keep an eye on my 30 and 40 rounders though.

30 round magazines don't have the problem
