I don't have any type of programming service and want to be able to watch news in real time.

What's available on the web, or, what do you watch if you are internet only?

YouTube TV subscription service gives live TV. Most news channels will also stream their live news on their website during the broadcast.

What kind of live news? Local, network or otherwise or all of the above?

I don’t have any answers but wanted to post in the thread to see what others suggest.

Take a look at DirectTV NOW, all programming by internet.
I've been on it a few weeks after AT&T ran fiber optic in my development, almost two years ago.
You get two feeds, locals, etc just like what is on cable and more, 65 channels starting at $40 a month with DVR (in the cloud) included and no contract.

It was a little slow at first when they went live but the latest app is very fast, just like cable tv box.

I dumped Time Warner (now known as Spectrum) $129 a month for two boxes and similar programming (no premiums).

I use the Amazon Fire Stick to access it, also have a Chromecast on our second monitor.

You can try it for a week at no cost. https://www.directvnow.com/thegoodstuff2?aa_ref=https://www.google.com/

I watch news while I'm at work with Chrome browser, you can also watch on your phone with the app.

I watched a fox news broadcast on youtube this morning while on the treadmill, but it was delayed. I realize unless it's breaking news, the stories will be the same, with perhaps only minor changes as the day progresses.

Is a high def antenna a option just for local channel news or live? I picked up one off amazon and it picks up a decent 20-30 channels around.

I'm looking mostly watch news on my tablet while on the treadmill in the morning. Otherwise, I'm fine just cruising here and youtube for boredom busting.

I assumed you were looking for free options. If you don’t mind paying, there are a lot of options available as you probably well know. DirectTV & You Tube TV was already mentioned, there is also SlingTV and the Spectrum TV app. Those services will cost you around $25 a month.

Check out the app called Pluto TV. They have a iPad app. I have just started watching it on my Roku & it looks like it might just be what you are looking for and it is free.

I think I saw that in my apps on my tv. I'll check it out there and if it looks like something I can use, try to put it on my tablet.

I put it on my iphone this morning & it seems to work really well. No local news but there is national news, on demand TV shows & movies. Watched the hurricane Michael news and the Matrix this morning.
