I've never run a WML and I need to change that.

What's the best sub $150 option?

COMPACT is gonna be important to me, perhaps even giving up lumens in trade.
MLOK QD mount would be groovy

I’ve got a couple of these Inforce lights on mine. I have not battle tested them but they’ve made through some heavy range sessions and I’m happy with them. Light weight and compact like you’re looking for. They have different models which are larger and smaller, with varying lumens.

I’ve got a stream light hlx 1000 lumen light on my 12.5”. It’s using the cloud defensive LCS and the arisaka scout mlok mount. Really like it.

I use a streamlight on an Arisaka Mlok mount as well.
The coolest solution I have seen for compactness is the Rorsch Works front sight/light mount. As it has a sight and holds a 1” light. It also centers light right over bore.

So good for real short SBRs like 7.5”. I think they went out of business though.

Check out Olight. Good performance that doesn’t break the bank, some of them are rechargeable as well.

While my AR is a pistol, I have that light mounted on a magpul “add a rail” so I can quickly detach it if need be. Selectable modes, momentary, rechargeable, operating output is 600 or 300 lumens and she throws. If you run an angled foregrip you can put the switch where your thumb rests in a kinda clamp position.

I’ve also uses a SureFire X300 mounted in the same way. Works great too and is a little thinner than the streamlight so I don’t see it at all in my optic.

View attachment 178965 Inforce WML mounted 12 o clock forward of the BUIS.

I'm gradually transitioning all of my rifles to this setup as it is lower profile than the TLR-1s I have been running.

I think this is what I’m going to go with. My SBR has a short rail section integral to the hand guard at 12 o’clock. That means I won’t need an MLOK rail section, 1 less failure point.

I run Surefires with pressure pads. I've got the light at 3 and pressure pads at 12 on my MK18 inspired build (10.3") and pressure pad at 3 and light at 130 on my 11.5" PWS SBR. I think I'm going to move the pressure pad on the PWS to 12 as well.

Tim,

I have used alot of WML's over the years, most posted in this topic. I can tell you that the only WML that has survived 10+ years from a EDC that was EDC'ed to moving on to my primary 16" AR light when i did carbine classes, avg round count 4000 a year, and now sits on my Scorpion EVO home defense pistol.

The Streamlight TLR-1 is the best in class for value.

I run a Surefire Scout that was liberated from an open supply convex in Kandahar. It’s light, no pun intended, bright, out of the way and holds up. It’s going to be a bit pricey. I’ll post a pic later.

Exact same setup that I run. M951 on a HSP at 3 (closer to 2:30ish) with the combo momentary/on tape switch mounted on the 12 rail behind my DD fixed fronts. Excellent setup on a 14.5 but not sure how it would work on a real shorty.

I really like it behind the FSP on my MK18. The gun is shorter but you hold it pretty much the same as the longer uppers. Unless you're one who holds the VFG solely. I kinda use the VFG as a handstop and reference point which puts my c clamp perfect for the 12 pressure pad.

I have a Streamlight PROTAC 1L in a thorntail mount on my SBR...

I'm running the same on my 10.5" SBR at home and the SL ProTac Rail Mount HL- X on my issue M4.

Based off of previous experience with SF weapon lights, SL has come a long way. I'm not questioning their durability or reliability one bit. Not a fan of the strobe feature though.

Doesnt meet your price point but the only light I'll bet my life on is a Surefire. Any of their WML's are G2G.
Agree that SureFire is a great light and I would bet my life I them, but (for rifles) if I had to pick one to bet my life on, it would be the Cloud Defensive OWL. hands down the best rifle light on the market. It’s expensive, but when you price out a comparable SureFire and add a pressure pad and a mount, you would be better of just investing in an OWL.

I programmed mine not to strobe.

I consider the Arisaka to be a Surefire basically. I'd own one but every time I've gone to order a light they were out of stock!
If you think you might be in the market again soon, bookmark Weapon Outfitters. They usually keep them in stock. I had the same problem as you, so I ended up going with WO.

i ended up getting an Olight PL2 mini Valkyrie, rechargeable. Running in the 12:00 position on my SBR's rail, it's definitely visible through my optic at 1 x. And it shadows the optic at 4x. So, it's a higher profile than I was hoping for. I may end up adding a rail section so I can run it at 3:00 (lefty).

But, the mounting lever seems very secure and the light itself is way more than I expected from a sub-$100 unit. It easily lights up my entire backyard, and really pissed off my wife when I shined it in her eyes.

Are you running it at 3:00 because it has a tail cap button? I’m a lefty as well but I run mine on the 9:00-11:00 position with a tape switch on the top rail.

no tail cap or tape switch. I find it easier to toggle the switch when at 3 is all.

I guess it would have helped if I had looked to see what the mini Valkyrie was. I had assumed it was a scout style light. Yeah 3:00 would work out well with that set up.
