I have a Ryobi 4stroke weedeater that uses my Troy bilt attachments. It runs..runs well.
However...the "power head" spins slowly as I am trying to weed eat. I've tightened the screw as tight as it will go... but it still slowly spins. Of course this makes the fuel filter come out of the gas and it cuts off... frustrating.

Any known tricks to fix this? Really don't have the funds to go get a new weedeater.

Many folks try to use the heaviest line they can find on a weed whacker thinking it will last the longet. Avoid this and try some light (sma!!er diameter) line.

If it's the shaft where the power head connects to the attachments. There should be an alignment tab (older) or spring loaded button (newer). These would fit into a mating slot or hole in the other side of the shaft.

Check if the spring/button didn't slip down into the shaft, or is gone.

Not my weed eater, but This is what is rotating. The engine/power head part. You can see the one screw at the bottom towards the handle...I've tightened this as tight as it will go. .but the engine still rotates while you're using it.
Any ideas?

I just set my weed eater down and came in to rest. Take my advice. Hire it done.

Seriously try turning it upside down and look at the two sides the screw is pulling together. If they are touching you probably don't have any more that you can tighten it. If you have a dremel with a small disc on it you might remove just a little material from each side so the when the screw comes tight they are not touching. That should hold it. Short of that if you can work a shim around the inside of that area the screw might hold then.

You have circled the problem.....

Some of the mtd brands have a keyway or locating pin that could be sheared. Some dont. If it doesn't have anything to locate the driveshaft to the power head, jb weld it and run it until you can replace it.

Right there should be a screw. That's all that holds the head and shaft in alignment. if it's missing, you can cross drill like a taper pin on a fsb and run a real thin bolt and nut through it 20200405_143814.jpg
