I think I might be projecting too much positive energy.
One of the women here just as if I'm free on the weekend.
Being quite happily married and always doing my best to avoid even the appearance of impropriety, I told her that I work 7 days a week when I'm n China. And I go to the gym in my off time.
Gotta to give her points for bravery though. Her English is not that great. She said she wanted to "play" with me. I understand how they speak enough to know that means going to a movie or something innocent. Not what my wife means when she says "time to play."

Dont be like Pence and do something with this girl, she might show you something in China you havent seen before, something that you'll enjoy.

Get out of your shell, out of your routine and try something new

Yes. A little while later I caught her looking at me and smiling.
I'm at least 25, maybe 30 years older. So I may just be misinterpreting. I lost my ability to interpret other women around the time I met my wife.

Men don't have a monopoly on not understanding women.
Women understand women and they hate each other.
Perhaps her smile is seeing herself living inside a cute American house, with an American white picket fence.

    Ha.
I don't enjoy site seeing without my wife.
I have not been to a movie in months with my wife, nor out to dinner.
It would feel very strange to do anything like that with a single female colleague.

One of the young kids once asked what I was doing over the weekend. When I answered "same as every weekend", she told me a group of them wanted to take me sightseeing. We piled into her tiny car and drive outside of Hangzhou into the countryside. After an hour or so, we come around a curve and I shout out, VENICE!!!!

One of them responds, "Yes, that's what they call it". I said, "That's not what they call it, that's really f'ing Venice".

Keep to yourself- even "innocent" interaction can be misconstrued or twisted and then you have way more trouble than it's worth.

Yeah, I wouldn’t go out alone with a female colleague, either. Pence is on to something there. It is flattering to have the attention, but best to leave it at that.

First time I was in England, I was out on the shop floor with a red haired Irish woman named Denise. I couldn’t hear a damn thing she was saying over the machinery noise and her accent wasn’t helping either. So I just nodded yes most of the time.

Next thing I know, right there on the shop floor she grabs me and starts kissing me.

I have no idea what I said yes to.

Bruh... I was getting my car worked on and my wing man (3 year old son) got a hottie and myself talking. We talked for about a hour and she told me if I was ever back in town to hit her up and hang out. Would it ever go beyond just a platonic encounter or a social outing? Nope, unless the wife wanted her to join in other activities.

So, all in all no harm, no foul in just going out and being a little bit social lol. I would cover your ass though and talk to your wife and get her blessing if you wanted to go that far lol.

Honestly, she is about averageish for Chinese in the looks department. I married hard 9.
Of course, if a 20 something Chinese women in the same category my was at the age flirted I'd be checking my wallet and looking for cameras.

    Ha!
TheRe actually is a "spy camera" at the office. It is a live feed to Hangzhou office. Hangzhou has the same and feeds to a bug tv in the Shanghai office. Makes everyone feel like big brother is watching.
I think it is funny. I take pictures of the tv and send them to Hangzhou colleagues.

In all seriousness, the down side far outweighs any innocent (insert word here). Two reasons...
    1. Your job is involved whether you understand it or not (I think you do)
    2. China is a different country
So, keeping with CFF protocol, since we can't spend your money, keep us posted!!!

In my 20 years in the Navy, I've come to understand a lot about many aspects of human nature and behavior.

One of them is the concept of "exotic". Exotic places, things, and people are attractive. Here in the states, for example, in areas where there are few oriental people, oriental people are "exotic". They're different and they have a beauty all their own because of that. And it's attractive...and in a way where a side-by-side comparison of an "average" appearing local woman next to an "average" appearing Asian woman would result in people being more attracted to the Asian.

Exotic is attractive...and when we're in a foreign port (country), WE become the exotic. With respect to places like China, Peru, etc., the average male is taller than the locals. That stands out. We look different...eye shape, eye color, skin tone, hair, etc. That stands out. Our mannerisms are different, our cultures are different, our dress is different. All that stands out.

And yes...they also stereotype us, and who hasn't wondered if there is any truth in some of the stereotypes we hear about? So there's mystery...and that, too, is attractive.

    Do NOT do this!

All goes well...until she discovers she has RIGHTS. And then it all goes to H*ll in a hand basket.

As the song goes..."It's cheaper to keep her".

Well...you can either pay the insurance premiums and live affordably until you suddenly die in a horrible boating accident OR you can be painfully raked over the coals for everything you have until the day you die from a slow, painful, miserable death.

    Your choice!

Do not go out innocently with single, female colleagues to do anything. You think, "I have experience now so I can avoid those pitfalls." Women are much, much smarter than you. It's ok and fun until it isn't ok, though can still strangely be fun, which is simultaneously the problem. Do not do it.

OP, you don't sound like you need these warnings, but continue to be friendly in the workplace. In the workplace, this can be fun and innocent. Just never go out for that "1 drink." Not even coffee. Not even water.

Someone else mentioned getting in a car with multiple co workers for sight seeing. I would do that in a heartbeat
