Well they finally got me.

I'm curious as to the timeline. What triggered the realization it was a scam, how quickly did you notify Venmo? I would think the window of opportunity to recover the funds is only a day or two, while it's in the funds clearinghouse.

Was it the .357 340PD? I only ask because I had reached out to him to see where he was located and he said that, due to work, he would only ship, no FTF. If so, he also has a single-shot .22 Winchester listed. If not, apologies to the poster of those ads.
That’s what I like to call a red flag.

If anyone flat out refuses a FTF I suggest walking away.

Got took for $525 today. "Member" had great feedback and I sent Venmo. They were supposed to ship handgun to my FFL tomorrow. Luckily site staff responded quickly and banned the username. I doubt the real member even knows he was hacked. Guess I'll no longer be sending money to "friends".

Venmo is no help and I doubt NFCU will do anything about it.

Sucks.
This sucks. I know we all like our site and the privacy associated with it, but....I think all ads should have a picture and a location. if I'm looking for a------ and you wont show me a picture of firearm or tell me where you live ( general vicinity) then Im not interested. Requirement before ad can be posted might reduce some of the low life's.

There a rule in place that says you must give your location and where you're willing to meet
Rule 8 in the stickies

Also, your online name, date and price written going across lined paper. Seems to help on some other groups that I am on.

I’ve asked this a number of times in the past, but why do we always default to trusting the seller? Why don’t we require the seller to ship us the goods, and require that they trust us to make payment? Just curious how it developed this way.

I expect some of you are old enough to remember Shotgun News. The deal was that seller sent gun to you for approval after a phone conversation. If you didnt like it, you sent it back on your nickle. If you liked it, you sent a check. Has my memory faded? Thats the way I remember it. Times have changed. it had something to do honesty, whatever that was.

Wow, I just joined and I thought my biggest problem was being unable to send messages. Sorry to hear that

And, in another wonderful bit of learning, I now know that telling a mod to suck my balls will trip the ban hammer! 😀
