Going to do some upgrades to my F-150. One item on the list is a winch. Back in the 90s when I was off roading, Warn was the best and what everyone in my group used. I’ve noticed a few new names during my searching on the internet. Is there a better winch on the market or is Warn still top dog. Also, it is only going to be used during emergencies or inclement weather.

Money still gets the best here. Mile marker. Superwinch. Warn. Take your pic. Synthetic cable is the way to go. Mount it on a reciever plate so you can use whereever you have a hitch. Recent project farm video has some real world testing

Man I watched that entire video. Now I want to buy a winch and
Micro machines.

So...it turns out that I in the word Winches is very important...as I came in here for a completely different reason.

I've never owned a pickup, just a bunch of landcruisers. Steer clear of of the bottom tier stuffs (harbor freight, etc).
I ran a smitybilt 9k on a samurai because it was 9k on a samurai which was overkill.

I never liked this concept. It kills your angles and a lot of times you end up having to do a lot a work to shimmy a winch cradle in place when you should have already had one I the front bumper.

Matt's Towing and Recovery on YouTube works the hell outa nearly a dozen Harbor Freight Badland winches without any problems.

Why not leave it there?

How many wenches could one winch if one were to watch a winch winching wenches? Its a matter of how hard a wench wrenches against the winch when being winched for wenching.

I think it depends on your use case, off roading every weekend where you know you are going to be using it or it's a mission critical thing to unstuck someone or yourself? I'd get as top dollar as I could...
If it's just going to be sitting in the bumper and used a couple of times a year, I'd weigh the cost benefit and look at a mid tier option.

The Tacoma World fools seem to like the Badlands series from Harbor Freight and they seem to hold up to everything except being submerged if I recall correctly.... there is a winch "shootout" somewhere out there where they tested and killed a bunch of units... I'll see if I can dig it up.
