What’s your Peace?

To drive you enemies before you and hear the lamentations of their women.

Oh, wait. Wrong question...

I try to see peace and beauty wherever I happen to find it. So, the answers are many. But, a couple come to mind..

On the lake, just as it's turning light. The water is dead calm and smooth as glass. There is a mist gently rolling across the water. You can hear everything for what seems like miles. You stay still, because you don't want to disturb the peace. Some birds fly by skimming the surface of the water. You hear the occasional splash of a jumping fish as the lake awakens.
Real beauty is fleeting and temporary. That's part of it's allure, it's rarity.

I do love a roaring fire at night, when it's cold enough to still need a jacket.
You feel the warmth on your face but the chill on your back. To be with someone you love, enjoying the solitude and quiet, save the crackling of the fire... Wait, it's too quiet. What are the kids up to???

What I’m doing tonight. Drinking a beer tying flies with a helper/road block.
This right here, working on the farm with my kids. This is my oldest, my right hand, and he is with me on every project.

My wife snapped this picture, he's running the splitter and I'm putting the logs into place.

Somewhere so cold, nobody else wants to go but the people you want there with you.

That’s nice that he enjoys being your right hand man.

Sitting in a chair around a fire with a group of friends, telling and listening to the same stories we’ve been telling each other for 20 years.

Kissing my son good night.

My wife sitting in my lap.

That very quiet and peaceful moment in a tree stand as dark turns into dawn. When everything in the forest seems to shut up for just 10 seconds to usher in the new day.

I think everyone has about touched on my zen I love being with my family, doing anything outdoors, campfires, walks with dogs, camping outside watching star at night it’s all awesome

@Rskahle your wife could replicate that picture at my house my son runs the splitter and we load haha but I love every minute of it.

Last though would be predator hunting, namely coyotes at night.

Music is the thing I go to most.

I'm lucky enough to live in a nice wooded area, and just going out in the yard can make me feel peaceful, especially on a windy night.

Looking at the stars on a cold winter night soothes me if I'm feeling out of sorts.

Keeping the dogs happy...….. the reaction when I come home from work, belly rubs or when I use the phrases 'You wanna go for a walk?" or "You wanna cookie?".

Other than that..... I relax by putting on my favorite tunes and doing day to day chores and occasional projects around the house. Give me hot coffee or cold beer (depends on the weather and time of day), set Amazon music/IheartRadio to Judas Priest/Ozzy/Iron Maiden/Dio/AC~DC, etc.... and I'm good to whatever. Strange...… but it's how I relax my mind from the other BS in life.

I guess mine has came full circle...... the woods are my home, always has been and always will be.
I was fortunate enough to have a little brother who was 12yrs younger than me and my time spent in the woods with him, teaching him the same things I was taught as a youngster, was my happy place.
As he grew and became a competent hunter himself I met my wife and in turn, my brother in law. He had hunted some as a child and had drifted away from the woods and I help reel him back in. He now too is also a competent hunter and no longer "needs me".
My greatest accomplishment is my 7yr old daughter. She is the ultimate diva. She dances like an angel and wins the school talent show yearly by showing up and being herself, but this yr she's decided she wants to hunt with Daddy.
She's already killed a 7pt and will continue to do good things because that what she does.
I say all that to say this....... When I'm in the woods and passing on my knowledge of hunting and the outdoors to others, I'm the best me I can be. Nothing brings me more peace than that.

A perfectly cast fly on a stream not found in any local guide books...

Excellent point. I don't fly fish, but I can imagine what you mean. When I bass fish and am fishing docks, a weed line or heavy cover their is something extremely satisfying about the perfect cast. Maybe a jig perfectly pitched into a 4" pocket 30' away. No splash, just a subtle splunk. The anticipation of the hit. Then the wondering WTF just happened when it doesn't happen. But oh that cast...and sometimes it even pays off.

Do you have an activity (other than sex or sex-related activities) that brings you what I describe as a heavenly peace? In other words, the world around you could be total chaos, burning down in a blaze of fire but if you were doing this activity you either wouldn’t notice it or wouldn’t care. I am fortunate to have two;

The first one is dancing. I know this is a very female answer but when I dance the rest of the world stands still. Nothing matters but me and the beat of the song I am dancing to. Every beat allows me to feel something, whether it be joy or what I can only describe as grit. If the right song comes on (and it only happens with certain songs) I can’t keep my body from moving, even if I wanted to. Those are the best songs. This is why sometimes I will dance on an empty dance floor...it’s because I have to and I really don’t care what anyone else thinks about it because my feet are gonna start moving regardless. It is rare for me not to smile while dancing because of the joy it brings me.

My second one is being with my family. I really don’t care what we are doing: eating lunch, playing a game, or watching television I enjoy the laughs we share. And of course, I enjoy my time with my hubby after my son goes to bed. This time to connect with my spouse is so important. It’s what keeps the flame alive. It’s what reconnects us each night after a busy day. It is what reminds me that all the other stressors in life are insignificant. As @Chdamn always says “Don’t sweat the small stuff...and it’s all small stuff.” This becomes clear when I am with my family.
I know it might sound kinda like suckin up kinda whipped as some guys would say, but my peace as you call it is my wife. She is my everything like I said before not whipped or anything else it is just she is everything I've always looked for in a woman to be mine. I mean you can ask anyone who knows us she is the love of my life and the very life of my love she is my everything. Like you said she is when I'm with her the one thing that makes everything go away, long as I'm with her I couldn't care what else happens around me. Ok enough sappy stuff on to being my normal pita. Oh almost forgot my dog Emma she knows when my temper goes nuts or I'm upset and she will come up and make me forget all about whatever has got me off balance so to speak. Yes I have lets say moments where I kinda lose lets call it my patience.13346271_1063807710372753_4691181087223268323_o.jpg

What kind of dog is that, a Collie/Saluki mix or something?

I couldn't have said it better.

I have a few things that bring me peace, usually in different seasons. In the fall and winter, it's definitely watching the sun come up from a deer blind or stand. Nothing like feeling the thermal force of the rising sun forcing that last bit of the night's coldest air across your face and knowing it's doing the same thing to your prey, making them get up and moving even thought they have a fur coat on. Nothing makes me feel more part of the whole of creation than that moment.

Then later, when it gets into the 20s and below, feeling a crack of my splitting axe against a nice seasoned round of hickory or white oak, the sound of it hitting the wheelbarrow, and then stacking up a pile for that nights' fire. I even split wood at night with a headlamp on, listening for any coons or possums or whatever night creature wants to happen across my activities. Single action 22lr revolver is ready for em ;)

In the late winter when we get a dose of spring weather, I like to go out to my friend's farm and set up steel plates at 100 and 150 and plink with my sons. They love shooting prone out of the back of my truck ;)

Springtime is garden time, and I wish I could really do what I wanted as far as growing things goes........well beyond the scope of my garden plots. My next place will have a greenhouse.

Summer means fishing, shooting, going out with friends and enjoying vacations.

All those things bring me peace and happiness when I share it with my family and close friends.

That’s awesome that you find peace with every season.

I'm following this thread very closely and will now make a prediction:

The thread is only 4 days old at 8:10 pm tonight and already has 110 posts from CFF members who have honestly shared their heartfelt sentiments about peace in life with the forum family here. I have sincerely enjoyed reading every single one of these posts as it helps me to better understand what really brings peace, tranquility, and a better quality in life to those of you that have contributed to the thread. For that I'm grateful and humbled at the same time. I'm guessing as you read this it become obvious what brings peace to me...……...it's seeing others happy, enjoying freedom, loyalty, caring for those around them......and yes; spending time on the very best internet hangout I've ever known about. All of you are the best and I appreciate what you bring to the Carolina Firearms Forum family here.

I predict this thread will continue to go for many more pages if we all pledge to tag it, post honest thoughts in it, and share it with others on the forum. We really have more in common than we know once honest feelings are shared. That is worth something to me in life.

Thank you @Chdamn's Wife for starting this inspiring thread and keeping it moving. And thank all of you who have posted in it.

I have several also that involve family or close friends. I also like the solitude of the woods and my happy place is the mountains. Will be headed up tomorrow afternoon to meet with a contractor at the mountain house. Normally I feel my spirits lift traveling up 321 above Lenoir getting close to Blowing Rock. Looking forward to a night by myself with a nice fire, probably some bourbon and maybe a book if I feel like reading. Will probably winterize thursday morning as our winter looks busy and we won’t be back up for awhile. Really looking forward to it after a few crazy weeks at work.

There's many things I enjoy. Hunting, fixing things, building, cooking, the company of my wife, playing with the dog, reading in the evenings - but only one source of peace: the time I spend in the mornings with the Lord. Reading His Word, praying, and then writing to reflect on what I've read and what the day holds. That's peace.

I have really enjoyed it as well. While I would say that the two I posted are my top two, I had forgotten about several others...listening to a thunderstorm on a covered porch, the warm trance-like state the a warm, cracking fire can put me into, the crashing of waves at the beach while reading a good book and I am sure there are more that I am forgetting. These posts reminded me of those beautiful, peaceful settings and for that I am grateful. If the snow rolls in this weekend I look forward to hearing the crunch of the snow beneath my feet, the beauty of the snow-covered trees, the quiet of the roads as everyone is home bundled up inside...that is until I let my dogs out and they dirty it all up...but for the few fleeting moments it is a true heavenly peace.

I am glad I started this thread. Thanks to all who have posted.

Based on the responses I think we need about 100 acres with a huge firepit and some gazebos in the middle for CFF gatherings. Maybe a CFF Stonehenge. I have the perfect property in mind. I'll have to see if I can convince my non-shooting, mountain hippie buddy to donate his land to us instead of leaving it for his kids. :(

To be honest, I'm still trying to find it since I moved here last August.
It used to be hiking by myself in a state park where I lived previously but I haven't ventured out to one here yet. Been too busy so far.

But Id have to say my favorite time to be alive now is when the GF and I go on vacation. Especially new places.
I love taking a break from the running around on vaca to just sit on the deck or whatever and chill with a couple of beers. Puts a smile on my face every time.

It's here. Anytime ya'll need a break from life, it's here. Fire pit, ponds, trails to roam, rockers ready for service on big shaded porches. All from CFF are welcome anytime. This is truly a shooters paradise.
