Today I surprised the fiance at her work.
Across the street is also my favorite record shop, downtown Winston - Underdog. She was consulting with a bride so I stepped over and instantly spotted something that @DrScaryGuy would appreciate - Anchors Aweigh by The Bouncing Souls. Only 13 bucks new, too.

So on the way home I listened to the album on my iphone and felt moved. Again.

There are so many songs that inspire. SO many more than the normal drivel on modern radio.
Post up what moves you to work harder, try harder, be better.

As for the title, from the album mentioned above, Highway Kings

Yall know I had/have my AR and AK bottle openers. I was so hesitant for so long to 'try' it, put my ideas out there.
Ultimately it came down to a few lines of this song.

"When we get cut It's so good to know that Sweet disasters Are just as precious
We fall down To kiss the ground
And live to love and lose
All is well if all falls, At least we'll know the truth"

hah! my only tattoo is from one of their events! - they designed a bunch of song-related tats and had artists do them with proceeds going to local charity. Also, raffles for dropping off foods at local pantries, charity auctions, etc. busy weekend. also very expensive. Want to generate a LOT of cash and food to help people? make it fun.
Worth it though, they saw me through a lot of years and I still find a lot of good stuff in their songs. Met my wife at a show, made a couple vacations going to asbury park for shows, etc. Somehow ended up hanging out with Greg's mom at their show in charlotte a while back, kept her from getting manhandled by security who didn't recognize her when she didn't have her pass.
These last bunch of years, this is my go-to song from them. No answers, just questions, sadness, and a little inspiration.

I know @DCGallim will feel me on this one.

I know your fear of loss
And your struggles with faith
And how it takes everything that you have to face the day
The virtues you possess now bring you eternal pain
All you have is contempt for a life you can't obtain
All your heroes have failed you
Yet you try and prevail
Face your torment and dismantle your doubt
Refuse this legacy of shame and deceit
Cause the only real truth in your life that you know is hostility
Your world is coming apart
Remain steadfast
Perseverance
Against all opposition
Crushing all limitations
Pure strength through solitude
Discipline and determination
You can't accept what you've been told
Anchored in sin you must reverse your descent
Declare the weight of the world has yet to claim you
And admit that your faults will not restrain you
Glimpses of fate bring light to your despair
Realise hope isn't short of your grasp
Resurrect every dream that you've buried alive
And never succumb to the war that you fight
Your world is coming apart
Remain steadfast
Perseverance
Against all opposition
Crushing all limitations
Pure strength through solitude
Discipline and determination

This one hit me when I first heard it. It was not long after a close friend died from cancer at the age of 34. Moved me, yes. Inspired to live life to the fullest.

"Dream wild in waves of confidence and heart
Don't underestimate the power of your part
Throw the rules away
Trust your gut and make it on your own"

"You're never gonna set the world on fire
If you don't keep your nose to the grindstone
Fruit is so much sweeter when you pick it off the tree
You can't let the grass grow up around your feet

You've got to climb the mountain if you wanna see the view
Don't get hung up on the roads that you didn't choose
Can't let the weight of the world bring you down"

I don't wanna live my life doing stuff I don't like to do
I just wanna spend my time on creating something true
I don't wanna live my life just pretending what I'm not
I just wanna spend my time living my life on the spot

LONG before kids were saying 'YOLO' these dudes out of the NYC hardcore punk scene were preaching living your one life to it's fullest with that PMA (positive mental attitude)

And no one said it was gonna be easy And I'm not afraid to try And with the odds stacked up against me, I will have to fight One life, one chance, gotta do it right!!!

from the start....

"Post up what moves you to work harder, try harder, be better."

Funny, I read an article about Hatebreed today something to do with 25 years since the release of Satusfaction is the Death of Desire being this year. Most of it was by Scott Vogel who as far as hardcore goes is the greatest vocalist/writer for me. Went back and started listening to Satisfaction and it slaps just as hard today as when 13 year old me heard it for the first time. Every song on there will have you ready to run through a brick wall.

Satisfaction is good...but for me, my intro to them was, really, Perseverance, so that one holds a special place in my heart.
You listen to these songs and, yeah, makes you feel ten feet tall.
One guy said something about Terror (Vogel!) and it applies here too - put on a Terror tee and add 20lbs of muscle instantly.

HB has such positive lyrics

I have a few songs that inspire me.

I've moved up/down the corporate ladder a few times, so "Little Room" by White Stripes still resonates:

When I was young and naive and optimistic, I'd get inspiration from bands like Talking Heads

After joining the workforce, it only took a year or so before I turned towards anti-establishment, e.g. Rage Against the Machine:

I was on an Anti-Flag kick for a while, and some of their songs rang in my head almost every time (for a while) that I walked into my job at Home Depot
