What else? Seems like there's been some turnover since I last looked at who all was doing IDPA matches.

Buccaneer Gun Club just outside of Wilmington does IDPA the first Saturday of each month, I'm working and missed it today though.

Yes I went today. Lon let the shooters use the gun they CCW and load the mags to full capacity. It was fun but I wasn't too competitive shooting a 5 shot J Frame against guys shooting full size guns!

Coharie Shooting League in Clinton NC is working on getting their match started back up, hopefully in March-April.

How beginner friendly is IDPA? It's something I've been thinking about lately.
Very beginner friendly at the venues I've shot. Dunn, Clinton, Sanford, New Hill (no longer running the match), Southport, and Wilmington.

I was trying to find any recent postings for IDPA at Freedom Gun club near Louisburg. I know they have a new crop of SO's because I was in the class with some of them. Anybody hearing anything about matches there?

@parrishbrian you would know, right?
Yes, recurring third Saturday of each month. Will be posted to PractiScore later today. Also the 4th Sunday, starting in March (two IDPA matches a month) we will hold IDPA at Freedom Gun Club. Here's our upcoming schedule:

Saturday, March 17th (3rd Saturday): Devil Dog IDPA @Freedom Gun Club. Match commences at 11:30, check in window opens at 10:30.
Sunday, March 25th (4th Sunday): Devil Dog IDPA @Freedom Gun Club. Match commences at 1pm, check in window opens at noon.

In April, we'll hold a Day-Night-Day session, April 21st and 22nd.

Website for Freedom Gun Club should be completed shortly with a detailed calendar. Match can also be found on PractiScore. Go to "Matches" and search "Devil Dog".

Thank you!

Best match around! We'll see you there ;)

I had made up my mind to come down to the next match, the 10th, just to spectate, but the wife sprung a trip to Pa on me
so it will have to be next time.
I must admit since I found this forum and have been listening to TT I've gotten a little excited about trying it out.
Can't believe H2o is right under my nose and I didn't know it.

And now I see a 14 page thread about it!

I believe there's a BUG match at H20 on March 31st. They fall on the months with five Saturday's. We shoot our small guns (that most of us actually carry). Good way to get introduced to the sport.

Bummer. We'll catch you the next time around.

If it's okay to just come down and hang out and watch i'm putting it on the calander.
I'm not quite ready to try and shoot it.
I've got some challenges I need to overcome first.
And I want to study on it some more and make sure I'm good on procedures, and above all safe.

By all means. There’re usually a dozen new shooters every month and you’ll get all the help and advice you can stand from the regulars.

You'd be more than welcome to come and spectate. But if all you're worried about it doing things right/being safe, the safety officers will take care of you. H2O has probably never had a match without a new shooter that's never attended before. They take great care of the newbies!

That's part of it but I need to get an eye exam. Without readers I can't see sights, and with readers target is a fuzzy blob. So I gotta see what I can do about that. Plus, like everyone always says, I need to be a better shooter!! Can't go tomorrow but I hope to get down there next week to check it out and hopefully use their range. Website says open to the public Fri-Sat. Might be my new place to shoot. H2O has probably never had a match without a new shooter that's never attended before. They take great care of the newbies. That's what I've been hearing.

That might be the ticket right there.
Small guns you say, as in compact? or sub?

IIRC Eagle Guns has an IDPA match. Never been there but I thought I saw something somewhere advertising it

Tell me what you are thinking about shooting (that you have a holster and two mags for) and I can tell you specifically if it is small enough. It's usually subcompact, but we don't split hairs at the local un-sanctioned matches either.

We can take this over to the H2o thread if you want. I don't want to derail the thread.
