Yeah, I could ask them, but that means I would have to talk to them. It's an old fat dude and a much younger fellow. Could be father and son.

A lady walked by last night and commented on the tee pee, then asked if the younger guy was working on his eagle scout. He said, "No ma'am. I'm an adult." Then he said a few more things that I didn't really hear.

At Myrtle Beach state park.

Interesting but, looks like a lot of work to set up/take down.

No thanks!

Sounds like broke back state park.

I think it a Sun Dance or something similar. I will pass on one of those.

There are quite a few Pre-Columbian migrants in that area, so seeing something like this shelter would not surprise me too much.

They've been playing indian music all day and sitting at their picnic table, working on something...

...all day!

Aaaaaaaandddddd.....lemme tell you about my childhood.

Dad was/is a serious "Rendevous" reenactment devotee. AWESOME fun as a kid when we'd go to a setup, pitch the lean-to, 3 seasons lodge, tepees, etc and do living history demos for folks or just as a fellowship thing somewhere in the woods with like minded folks. Running around in buckskins, breechclothes, and moccasins was a hoot. I learned to throw the tomahawk before I owned a bike.

Serious fun.

Until we went to a normal campground and stood out like a sore thumb. So, that pic in the OP could very well have been me 40 years ago!

And like an oven in the summer. No ventilation.
No, that's a double wall teteepee, canvas instead of hides, but otherwise similar to the plains indians lodge. The double wall keeps 'em cool, and it keeps the cold out when a fire is drawing. The top of the inner wall is just above haid height.

They are definitely getting attention. Lots of folks asking questions and commenting.

Don't get me wrong. I think it's neat. But, I could do with a little less drums and chanting.
